My poor coworker's family is still over there. Her mother and brother-in-law died yesterday in the hospital with covid. Neither received any treatment. No IV, no ventilator, no feeding tube. They weren't fed and were checked on once a day. Her mother's brief wasn't changed for 4 days. Her mother was dead for 5 hours before they even checked on her. The entire hospital staff is black and she is white. It's an awful situation over there. Her sister is trying to manage things down there, but it's not even safe to travel between cities.

I don't really see the comparison beyond civil unrest I'm sure there is a more general warning here about the haves and have nots and the power of the have not masses, but I don't otherwise see SA as a particularly relevant case for us.

Sat next to a guy from Durbin on a flight to South Africa and he told me it was a very dangerous city, and that was nine years ago. Looks like it’s still bad.
