Anybody else run into this at family gatherings or during water cooler talk at work? I usually don’t say anything and just nod or smile, but the amount of people who lie to seem interesting intrigues me.

Here are a few examples:

1. The “I gave a McDonald’s employee $5.25 even though our total was 4.25 so I can get a dollar back. They said I gave them too much money and they were too dumb to figure it out”

2. The “I have a friend/relative who works at insert school here and they actually had a student named La-a, Abcd, Shithead, lemonjello/orangejello

3. The “I hate homeless people. One time I just asked them for a dollar before they asked me. He looked so confused. chortle”

I'm a teacher and have heard this one thousands of times.

I've had this happen to me on more than one occasion at a local gas station.

The total will be like 16.20. I give 21.20 to get a 5 dollar bill back. When they get the 20 and 1 dollar Bill's with some change, they will try to give me the single back and are just confused as all hell for about a full minite.

My wife is a teacher. Same here. I actually had my brother in law tell me this one when it could easily be proven false by my wife logging in. Of course, I just smiled and nodded.

Back in the 1850s before everything was put on a card, this happened all the time.

Specifically when it came to $xx.77 or something and you gave them 2 pennies.

I’ll say that #1 is the most plausible to be true. But I know they’re full of shite when they adlib something to the story like “she went and got the manager and he was confused and finally said ‘we don’t do that here’.” Then they chuckle and say “idiots”

Sometimes the story flows better when you tell it in the first person.

I work at a college as a janitor even though I feel like I’m smarter than most of the people who go there. Sometimes I see an equation written on a blackboard like half an equation and… I just figure it out.

My thirteen year-old son Khodie batted ..734 in travel ball all-stars last year and a scout from the Yankees has been calling, saying they want to sign him the moment he turns 18.
