They were CERTAIN dead bodies were gonna be in the streets, frikin ay was hoping to win back that 30% of my retirement I’ve lost already. I’ll just double down for next week, hopefully grandma bettys face down in the road.

Scruffy works at a pretty big hospital too and it isn’t bad at all.

In terms of overall census, ED traffic and patient load. In the greater New Orleans area, it's not at all bad and no one is overworked right now.

However and this is a big "however". I work at a prominent GNO acute care hospital and as of Tuesday, suspected and confirmed covid diagnosis out number all other diagnosis combined.

THIS was the week you fear mongers said everything was going to hit the fan and death would be everywhere.

Remains to be seen how this will play out

We're a geographically large country and it's doubtful that clusters showed up at the same time everywhere

I think what you'll see is a steady stream of deaths and not necessarily a spike

It will be staggered based on region

Any particular reason you didn't buy into the media hype from the beginning?

Because all media is yellow journalism. Skepticism is healthy.

They are using refrigerated trucks as a morgue in NYC. Maybe not bodies in the street, but I'd say that is definitely out of the norm and cause for concern.

But I'm sure you've got it all figured out.

We've taken all of these steps to reduce the spread of the virus, and it actually seems to be working

Maybe, or possibly the worst case scenario being force fed to the public was science fiction.

Usually between two extremes you'll find the truth.

Trucks? There was one.... and they store bodies in refrigerated air? I’m sure they are going to transport those bodies out of the morgue before anyone else who could’ve been there prior to the virus or anyone dying from it. Various reasons they want to, I’m sure to study their respiratory systems. But you just go ahead and think the bodies will start piling up, please stay home when the country opens up.

I agree. But I'm not sure what the better option was in this situation. New virus, no vaccine, spreading quickly, spreading easily, high morality rate.

ETA: And I agree that journalists' role in this has been shameful. Distorting reality from January to slam our leaders for political points.

The journalists are mostly to blame.
Most are biased, substandard, or both.
The internet had exposed the entire profession. They can’t hide any more.

If we had a do over and we know what we know now, we could have massed produced test kits and started testing in mass January 1.
Then we could monitor things better and take preventive measures depending on what we found.

They had 13 covid deaths that day. While I’m very sorry for the family and friends of those who passed, the “apocalyptic” descriptions being used in some headlines was irresponsible at best.

It’s hard to imagine that 13 additional deaths should overwhelm an NYC hospital operating at a decent level of efficiency.
