Some deaths would happen from COVID, but if a hospital isn't overwhelmed, some can be prevented.

I don’t see 2x flu anywhere in the Journal article? All I saw was “somewhere in between the flu and SARS” which is a mostly useless statement.

The argument is about to shift how this would be so much worse if we did nothing.

And yes, there is merit to that argument.

How much merit?

Your opinion isn’t worth anything since you can’t answer that question, but it doesn’t stop you from undermining the efforts.

This argument is nothing like an argument of handing money out to people.

Fauci also says:

Fauci said New Orleans officials were shutting down the city "in a very rigorous way" -- aggressive steps that could have been taken earlier.

"it is likely that that should’ve been done a little bit sooner," he said.

Take your pick OT. It's either a bad flu or something serious enough where we need a US lockdown.

When it is all said and done, and all the data comes in showing CFR of 2X the flu, the people who lose their jobs over the hysteria are going to be the hardest hit.

And...shortly after shutting New Orleans down you’d have record breaking hotel revenue in Baton Rouge...

I understand though that they are concerned about their livelihoods. When you're out of work or have friends out of work and struggling, but know nobody with the illness, you're going to naturally side with "this is overblown."

I'm still stuck in the middle with my opinion because I don't know. I'm glad I dont have to make these decisions.

Same song and dance from the chicken littles. It could not be clearer to reasonable people that this whole thing was a massive overreaction to what is basically the flu. But of course you clowns are happy wrecking the economy as long as you don't have to admit you were wrong.

So it is .28% now, not the 3.4% that The WHO put out there. When we are done, we will probably see that it is less than .28%. I am convinced that there are huge numbers of positives out there with no symptoms or symptoms so minor that they will never be tested. Everyone sitting in their homes for months on end is not going to end this.

You realize the normal flu CFR is (worst case estimate) .15%

A covid cfr of ~1% is still several times deadlier than the flu

Scruffy works at a pretty big hospital too and it isn’t bad at all.

We also have a more than sufficient supply of tests and PPE.

Our lab is generating a shortened, under 24 hour test as well.

Here is the issue with statements like this.

We have had predictions of “we are 8-10 days from hospitals failing”...and that was 2-3 weeks ago.

Then we have statements of “2 weeks behind Italy”...and that is repeated every day for 2 weeks.

Apparently, we are still “2 weeks behind”.

The goalposts keep getting shifted and it pushes people away.

Now, people that haven’t been directly affected are losing their jobs and unemployment is skyrocketing.

The public trust in the ability of those to make sound predictions is unraveling and unraveling fast.

That’s how they calculate the flu nCFR of 0.02% everyone keeps spouting. They assume a bunch of cases.

The positive test/death rate of the flu like we’re calculating Covid is 3.9%. It’s completely irresponsible and intellectually dishonest that people are running around saying Covid kills 5+% of people.

Why dont we wait till the daily death rate stops climbing before declaring victory, a lot of folks in Italy were spouting the same thing a few weeks ago and it did not turn out so well for them.

FYI thus far there is nothing to indicate we will be any different.
