Dolly started sneaking and wearing makeup as a young girl. She was forbade from wearing it and was admonished and shamed for it. When told it was frowned upon by here religious family and church she replied, "Yes I want to go to Heaven, but I don't want to have to look like hell to get there!" She included that exchange in one of her movies, having the young actress who played her relay the sentiment.

Our household is a huge Dolly fan. Just an amazing human being. My kids named a cat after her as thanks for the books she sent them every month. It's a sad day here in Tennessee, but also a day to celebrate her impact on us.

We went to Dollywood over the summer and my daughter wanted to go in the Dolly Parton Experience - it had the book giveaway counter. Wish I had taken a picture of it but it kept climbing and climbing.

That sucks. She really was a national treasure.
Has she been sick or something?

A few weeks ago I took Jr and his buddies to Nashville for their senior trip. We rented a boat and parked out at a shallow point that's a crab island sort of thing. Shallow area. I started looking at my property owner app and I'll be damned if Dolly's house wasn't right there. Nothing fancy. Nice looking outdoor area.

Even AI would struggle summarizing Dolly's legacy to the world. RIP to a legend that will never really die!

She is an icon and East Tennessee is going to mourn this hard.

2026 has been brutal celebrity death wise

Shame. She is one of those people who shouldn't die. We lost a thread of the quilt of Americana today.

A very talented song writer. Wrote many songs that others sang.
