Has she been sick or something?
There were rumors of this.
Her husband died last year, and she was 80. As news was recently released about her being sick, word around town was that she didn't have long left.

What she did for literacy in Sevier County/NE Tennessee and the amount of money she put into improving the QOL in Appalachia en large was without peer.
She was a saint on Earth.

The Children's Hospital in Knoxville was renamed for her several months ago.
I never thought I'd tear up for a celebrity, but I am.
I saw her live, close up at the Nashville Airport. I thought that woman does a good Dolly impersonation. Lots of children were moving slowly to her, but kept themselves about fifteen feet away. Her manager joined her where she was standing (so it was really her). And she looked at the children with a broad grin and motioned them to come on. And they did and she signed lots of autographs and the children's grins matched her.

There are just some things that everyone can agree to, the world is better place because of people like Dolly, and anytime one of them leaves us it leaves a huge void that will be hard to fill.

Very sad news indeed. She was a national treasure.
Regarding the Islands in the Stream video/song posted...Barry Gibb and the BeeGees wrote it. Kenny Rogers was trying to record it and it wasn't working. All of a sudden Barry Gibb said" We need Dolly Parton". About four hours later she was in the studio and the rest is history.
Also, Elvis wanted to record I will always love you but the Colonel wanted 50% of the song and she refused. Of course it disappointed her to not hear Elvis' version but she doesn't regret her decision.

I'm too young to have seen that live, but that's hilarious. A year's pay to peak under there, lol.

This sucks. Dolly is my wife’s mom 2nd cousin. Me or my kids never got to meet her but my wife did when she was very young. We were supposed to get to meet her this year through my former mother in laws only surviving sister who still had a connection to Dolly. My wife’s mom (named Avie Lee)was named after Dolly’s mom Avie Lee Owen’s. She and Dolly were about 4 years apart and grew up close to one another in Sevierville area. My wife just told me her mom and Dolly died at the the same age. My oldest daughter’s middle name is Avie Lee. This really sucks.

In my lifetime, I think Arnold Palmer and Dolly Parton have to be the two most universally liked and admired celebrities in American culture. Have never heard a bad word about either.

My family watches Coat of Many Colors every Christmas since she released it in 2015. If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it with your children. Dolly was an amazing woman.

Dang it, just watched "Steel Magnolias" the other day with a friend who had never seen it before. She was excited to see Dolly was in it.
This is a sad day for the world.
