We had similar childhoods.

You serious Clark? A store that spoon feeds pre-packaged fashion tech vs a store that I could buy individual resistors, capacitors, and diodes to solder my own gadgets together? Radio shack was for actual nerds.

If the movie BlackBerry is accurate, those guys made the first smartphone prototype from parts they bought at Radio Shack. It was incredible.

This is similar to my own thinking.

The Apple Store convinces you that anything you want to do in the outer world can be done with whatever extraneous peripherals that flow towards their core products: iPhone, iPad, MacBook, & iMac and their supporting infrastructure. It always points towards Apple and being part of the ecosystem.

Radio Shack was open-ended and outward facing. Gadgets, tools, electronics, and components you never imagined would captivate you and stimulate creative thoughts of what you might do with them when you left the store (ecosystem) and applied them to the outer world.

Radio Shack and the Apple Store are diametrically opposed philosophically with where they direct your attention.

I don't hate Apple... in hindsight, I sort of wish he'd succeeded to a greater degree and beat Bill Gates before that arse dominated the PC OS market, but that's a topic for another thread.

Heck nah! Apple Store is sterile as hell, boring & costs you a ton when you actually purchase something. As a Kid I could explore radio shack & kill some time when my Mum was shopping

Radio shack stopped being fun when they discontinued the Golden Arrow.

No. There was nothing in radio shack near the prices of Apple products. Most overpriced products ever other than Nike shoes.

Pre-90’s, before RS became a glorified cellphone store, it was fun to explore because of all the gear, parts, and kits for electronic activities. It was a great place to explore things like ham radio.

Apple stores are just upscale boutiques for rich people.Theres no wonder about it at all.

No, when I would go to Radio Shack I’d get my card stamped for a free battery. Apple doesn’t give away free batteries.

I’ve never been in an Apple Store. I’m pretty sure the last cell phone store I went into was bellsouth mobility to get my startac flip phone.

The coolest things in the Apple Store are in the back left devices that are actually not Apple products.

RS had $hit that you couldn’t find anywhere else to actually fix things. Apple Store is only stuff to replace broken things. Not the same kind of store.

No Apple Store can compete with even this one item.

Hell no

Radio Shack you used your brains to build something surrounded by staff with a high degree of personal interaction and problem solving.

Apple Store is folks that have no original minds and the "Genius Bar" is anything but. No Brains and No Bar to get a drink and discuss stuff.
