Dog is a great alarm of intruder, especially big dogs. However, not an option ATM.

Most I ever do is if something seems a little off I'll walk to where I keep an AR-15 leaning against the wall and make sure it's still there. Figure if someone's in my home the first thing they're going to do is grab that.

Move to the country baw and be free.

True, I live in a densely populated city. No dogs.
It's a high end area, average 1/1 condo being in the realm of 250-300k houses are 900k and up, but I prefer to not just rely on demographics and geography for safety.

I don't do it during the day, but since the Idaho murders and even before that I've gotten into a routine of checking my place when coming home at night after being away on business.

no. got security cameras covering every corner of the house that set to alarm as soon as my phone is a mile away from my house. i also live in a safe neighborhood with neighbors who keep an eye out.

but when Sun God gets really drunk he will clean your whole apartment at 3AM. when i read the thread title, that's what i thought the OP was about.

I don't have a gun, don't have a dog, yet somehow I'm still alive and without fear.

Crazy, right?

Fear no, but being at least somewhat prepared for something bad and unlikely, yes.

I definitely don't experience adrenaline when coming into my house. There's no elevated heart rate, etc...It's just a habit, routine so I have a peace of mind my house is safe.

In college one of my roommates would come home blackout and start cleaning the kitchen pretty often. We never mentioned it because we didn’t want it to stop.

No, but I set an alarm when I’m gone and when I’m sleeping at night.

do you have an alarm? do you set it? Only way I'd clear my house nightly is if something was amiss.

why would you leave your gun in your car? Especially if you feel its necessary to clear your house? Keep the gun on your person so it doesnt end up on some other person.

We lock all doors and set the alarm each time we leave and have motion sensing cameras that sends us alerts if movement is detected. If I arrive home to find Jason Bourne waiting for me in the living room then there's nothing more I can do at that point.
