A habit you developed during your years with FBI HRT?

It sounds like it causes enough anxiety that it affects your behavior, especially if the routine eases your mind, rather than the completely remote chance that someone would be lay waiting for you when you come home.

"Anxiety" and "fear" are different forms of stress, to be fair.

To be frank, I also hate flying. I'm not scared of it, but I resent the idea. Because if someone fcked up and didn't do their due maintenance we're stuck 10k feet up in the air in an aluminum box that probably is going to be my coffin. So the lack of control and security does raise my anxiety.

I also check tie rods and check/tighten my lug nuts on the truck. And believe you me, they will often under tighten them because the air compressor is weak.

I mean, I have before, but I don't do it every time I come home and I sure as hell don't do it with a weapon.

This should never happen. Never leave a firearm unattended in a vehicle. Too easy to lose it to some fine young individual who is intent on increasing their cultural stature.

Why would you leave a gun in the car?

Carrying groceries

But can carry mace or a knife ready to defend.

I will often leave rifles in the truck, it's a safe area.

And a great place for them to be stolen.

Not unusual, you are probably keyed up from the night drive and your brain needs time to wind down, that's what the cleaning is managing.

what makes you think there is someone waiting days or hours in your house to ambush you when you get home. It would be much easier to ambush someone as they were leaving the house.

I forgot to mention, not that it was pertinent, but I'm also not slacking leaving the front door either.

Mace are on my keys, knife is in pocket/wasit band ready to pull out. Not sure which irregularity you're trying to emphasize here.

I agree but the parking lot is gated, lots of potential wintesses in an open parking lot, and police department is literally 100ft away from the parking lot.

It would be a terrible spot to break into a car, aside from terrible police response time. It's about 3-6 minutes. Not good.

I’ve never heard of a male having a mace key chain

In fairness, I've never heard of a female who has a knife he/she thinks she can effectively deploy either

You are an irresponsible gun owner and you deserve to be publicly shamed.
