re: Do your kids go to private school?
My kids have to go to private school. I live in BR. I have no choice.

Yes. K-12.

Still voted for St. George because while my wife likely would not have, I would have loved the extra $160k in my pocket and I would like some other younger couple to have that option in the future.

Two oldest ones did, youngest still does.

When they started, there was no separate Germantown School District and Shelby County Schools sucked.

As an added bonus, they got the distinct privilege of going to my alma mater.

No. Started off in catholic school but got into an advanced studies school so we put him there. Would’ve remained in catholic school if not for that. We live in Jefferson Parish

EBRPSS Magnet program.
Wham was excellent.
Sherwood Middle was decent. Pimp Jr hung w/D Stingley.
BRMHS is excellent. Very academically rigorous, daughter all state gymnast, kids spun records at radio station, played jazz guitar, all AP core courses, started College basically as sophomores.
All kids excelled , 30+ ACT scores, college scholarships and awards.
Pocket additional post taxable 25 k a year for 12 years. Invest. Retire.
Kids loved it, especially BRMHS. 3 for 3 loved it.
Best decision I ever made.

Voting FOR St George.

re: Do your kids go to private school?
Big reason I don’t want kids
Granted I am not married but seems like owning a home, saving for retirement, saving for college, and paying for private school just doesn’t seem possible
I want little stress, not more

No but it is a viable option to the cluster that some public institutions have become.

re: Do your kids go to private school?
I grew up in the suburbs of BR, went to Private School from K-12. I lived in Livingston Parish when my kids started school, public schools weren't bad but the social aspect was severely lacking. I had nothing in common with the redneck parents we would see at functions.

Moved to Mandeville a couple of years ago and live in a neighborhood public school district. We couldn't be happier. When we visit our kids' schools we feel like we are at a private school. The administration cares, they use parish/state resources that private schools don't have, and the kids play with their neighborhood friends at recess.

When I graduated from a Catholic school in BR 20 years ago, the tuition was around $3K. Now it is over 10K. To me, knowing the environment there and at my kids' schools, there is no justification for a $20K annual bill for school. And I live in a better city than BR/Livingston/Ascension.

Yes we believe religion needs to be part of their lives and teachings in school.

Honestly that’s not as bad as I would have guessed. When I was in private (technically Catholic, which is even a bit cheaper) it was $5500/year. I believe now it’s well past $10k/year per student.

It doesn’t.

If anything having to deal with that on a daily basis caused me to burn out the second I graduated.

re: Do your kids go to private school?
saying our schools are on par with private schools is not bragging, it's a statement.

My son went to a private school in Louisiana one year (5th grade) and the schools out here are about the same just have bigger class enrollment so they don't get as much one on one.

on a par with. As good as, equal to, as in This violinist may be an amateur but he's on a par with professional orchestral players. The noun par has meant “that which is equal”

Wow. Even factoring in inflation, price more than doubled

I MO if you live in the South, you must use private schools just to protect your kids.

re: Do your kids go to private school?
Honestly that kind of stuff can happen anywhere. We live in Westlake and they have good schools. We choose to send ours to iccs.

The schools in your area are fine. Sj is much like barbe, has 2/3 great, 1/3 bad. Same as barbe. Both are good schools if you want then to be but I will say there will be areas of the school where your kid won't want to go.

If the above is not acceptable you have three amazing private options in iccs, olqh, and eds. St Louis is the best school on the area but has its own set of problems.

As much as I think your child would be fine, going to public school myself, I didn't want my kids going to it. They are better now but still not good enough imo.

I can not recommend iccs enough, very conservative and small classes. Same with Episcopal, but Episcopal is quite a bit more. You will have to make the choice what kind of kids you want your kids around.

re: Do your kids go to private school?
was opposed to private school for a long, long time, mrs wanting to make the switch. The local public school does the best they can but they're overrun with kids. mostly just doing crowd control. Finally moved the kid in junior high. massive difference. 15 to 18 kids per class, most of the faculty have advanced degrees, no mutiple choice tests, etc if you have the $'s, it's worth every penny imho.
