re: In honor of the season, what are your favorite coaching search stories?
Posted by Pistol 23 on 11/17/25 at 10:40 pm to TexasTiger08
For me, it's 1993. LSU was in the 3rd year of Hallman and we stunk. Our record was 3-5, including a 58-3 loss to Florida and headed to Alabama as a 24-28 point underdog. Alabama was on a 31 game unbeaten streak (including ties).
The word on the street was, LSU was about to fire Hallman and hire Mack Brown. Brown was the OC or QB coach at LSU in 1982 and was a very well respected offensive mind back then. He spent a few years at Tulane and turned them around and was doing the same thing at UNC.
I was in Tuscaloosa to watch LSU pull off the biggest upset in the school's football history, in my opinion. Just shocking. I don't think this was ever confirmed by anyone, but I believe Joe Dean felt he couldn't fire Hallman after upsetting Alabama and had to give him one more year.
He fired Hallman after 1994 and Brown eventually took the job at Texas a few years later.

re: Lonn says 2 of LSU’s wealthy alumni are ready to assist in BK’s buyout if things worsen

I'm pretty sure if two "wealthy alumni" reached out to anyone in the media, and JUST COMPLETELY VOLUNTEERED THAT INFORMATION, that dork would be the last one on the list they would call.
It can probably be found on the 104.5 Youtube channel. I can tell you it was the postgame show of the 2021 Ole Miss game on October 23. Remember, the week before we beat Florida on Saturday and they announced the firing on Sunday and let him finish the season.
I know it was the Ole Miss game because I made the mistake of going on that road trip and we were headed back to the hotel while listening the postgame show.

Maybe you didn't see the edit, clown.
C.J. Daniels. Can we fire Joe Sloan tonight?

He has five TD's in five games. None last year.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't scroll.

You can still listen to it on demand on the 104.5 website.

It's a recruiting board and he's sharing news about a former recruit. I don't see him "getting excited" about a DWI. It's newsworthy.
Ummmm, he obviously knows about Guice, genius. That's why he asked for feedback.

Gabe was a bad dude on the field. Loved the guy. Unfortunately, he was mostly on bad teams.

We'll probably know tomorrow or Monday.
re: Will Hanny be doing a Thursday night show this year?
Posted by Pistol 23 on 8/21/25 at 11:46 pm to Jim Rockford
They stopped doing that call in show a few years ago. It used to be on Wednesday nights following the coaches show.
That's why I asked the question above. They were great in pass protection with a QB that was not very mobile. So maybe the running game struggles had more to do with scheme and less to do with talent. I don't think they were as bad at run blocking as the numbers showed. Just my opinion.
re: Unpopular opinion: OL will be one of the strengths of the team this year

Do you think running a zone read with a pocket QB had a significant part in our struggles to run the ball last year?

Skenes probably sobbed uncontrollably seeing a 6 in the run column.

His dad was either all metro or all state back in high school on the south shore (I think). He's an attorney in Mandeville.
re: Aside from Burrow and Daniels, who's the most dramatically improved player you can recall?

Clark is a great answer. It was so frustrating watching him his junior year. He made a huge jump.

Speaking of that, what's the scoop on Hunter Elliott not getting drafted high and going back to Ole Miss? I know he had an arm injury two years ago, but he seemed to bounce back. And now he's going back for a senior season with no leverage?
Forgive me if this was asked and answered, but I didn't see Schmidt on the summer league stats. Is he pitching anywhere? I figured he would pitch since he didn't throw a ton, unlike Casen Evans who obviously had no reason to throw this summer.
