He's going down swinging haymakers. Love to see it.

I heard that too. It sounds like someone said "he broke it".
After Serna ran into the clubhouse.
So the portal is not open yet. Any reason you mentioned these two? Did they declare intentions to enter?
I know. Me too. It's so frustrating with our team in this position. Just looking for anything positive and all we can do is wait and see what happens with the portal and the draft. Next season can't get here fast enough for me to forget this train wreck we just watched.

By the 4th inning
Absolutely not. But I'm stunned it's this bad and shocked that Jay and Yeskie have been unable to fix some of the problems with this staff.

Hard to believe its been there this long after the game and no one has fixed it.
Lane Mestepay has to be the all time greatest "pitch-to-contact" pitcher in the history of LSU. I remember one inning in a Friday night SEC game. I swear he loaded the bases on three singles, got a double play, then the third out. I think he gave up one run and got out of the inning in about 10 pitches.

What I've seen this season, is that he's not very good at the plate, in the field and on the basepath. That's the reason he's not playing.
I may be wrong, but I thought the AD from Mississippi State was the chairman of the selection committee that year. I didn't know Polk was involved.
I laughed out loud when I read this and saw your name. Of course you would say this. Try "someone else"? Tell me, where will this "someone else" come from? I'll answer. It would come from the bullpen. Now genius, have you watched our bullpen this year?
I think our RPI would have to get to the high 30's maybe? Now, if we win 13 games including 4 over Georgia and Florida, could our RPI get that high? Maybe. Let's get there first and see what it looks like. One more win the SEC tournament probably wouldn't hurt if it happens.
Do you think Jay's recent comments about putting a little more focus on high school recruits and develop, may equate to spending more money on those fringe players in the draft? Obviously, those 1st round guys are no shot. I'm wondering about those guys in the 50-100 range. Could Jay be considering bigger offers to those kids to get them to campus?

re: Any updates on Evans?

Jay said on the radio show he was pretty optimistic and didn't rule out pitching this weekend. I don't think he was lying. There was a positive tone in his voice when he said it.
I was at that regional. ECU's coach was Keith LeClair. He was considered a real rising star in the coaching ranks. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with ALS around 2001 and died in 2006.

It was a really good duel with ECU. We had a back and forth game with them and lost in the 9th inning, 11-10. We had to win a losers bracket game later that Saturday night and come back to beat them twice on Sunday. We were losing something like 8-3 in the late innings of game 1 and Trey McClure put the team on his back and rallied us to a win 12-10. Then, the bad weather rolled in forcing them to delay the final game until Memorial Day. That gave Kurt Ainsworth another day of rest to start on Monday after throwing 129 pitches on Friday against ULM. He was nails and we won 9-0.
From the 3rd inning Saturday through the 6th inning Sunday, the leadoff hitter for MSU reached base every time. That's 12 straight innings!!!! They obviously didn't bat in the bottom of the 9th on Saturday.

And in the first 6 innings Sunday, none of them reached on a base hit.

re: Interesting Stats

Think about the last two weeks. Against A&M, our bullpen keeps us in the games and our offense was awful against a mediocre pitching staff. This week, the offense is more than enough and even knocks out two good starters on Friday and Saturday and our pitching staff is a dumpster fire. We just can't seem to put it all together in the same weekend.

re: Casen Evans tonight.

I probably will get blasted but I really don't think it's a stretch. I don't have any problem if he did it. He's trying to find enough wins to get into the tournament. And if he did it to give us the best chance on Saturday or Sunday, I'm fine with it.

And if Evans doesn't pitch Sunday, then I was clearly wrong.

Casen Evans tonight.

Sorry if this was asked and answered already. Just jumped on and went back 5 pages and didn't see it. Jay said Casen felt some soreness during pre-game stretching and that he didn't throw one pitch. The game was moved up due to weather. Is it possible Jay was just using this as an excuse? If Evans starts and pitches well and we get in a rain delay in the 3rd or 4th inning, he would be done for the day. Add in the fact that we were facing one of the best pitchers in the SEC. Just a thought. I don't have a problem with the decision if he did it.

That loss was a gut punch today but I loved seeing the freshmen play well.
