9 times out of 10 there’s no need to take a different route if simply going across town. But if going across the metro you’re definitely gonna need it.

There are 2 sides to the coin:

On one hand, a suggested route that seems odd can often avoid some big accident/construction slowdowns.

On the other, I often laugh when I take a way that seems a bit irregular on a smaller street and it's packed with taxis and ubers because all their apps sent them that way.

Yes. What if I need to take an alternate route? What if there is a better route than I normally take?

There is no downside to using your nav software if you're not a complete idiot and are not going to sheepishly drive into a lake or off a cliff (and in those cases, you shouldn't be driving, much less using such software).

I do too tell me if there is traffic I don't always follow the route given though.

One thing I have noticed in rural areas, is that many people who swore all their lives that a certain route is quicker have a tough time accepting apps showing them a quicker one.

I use it all the time. Not because I don’t know how to get to my destination, but to know of potential issues so I can plan accordingly.

I use Google Maps on the way to work and driving back home. Mainly because I work in Luling and the smallest thing can turn 20 minutes on the interstate into a 30+ minute commute. Plus the map alerts me to any cops since I like to speed.

Waze frequently to remind me where the cameras, police and traffic jams are.
