Do you use a maps app when driving locally?

This will really only apply to you who live in more densely populated areas. I always turn on my Google Maps going anywhere.
9 times out of 10 there’s no need to take a different route if simply going across town. But if going across the metro you’re definitely gonna need it.

I use Waze everywhere I go.
I like to drive fast, and it keeps me posted on where the revenue pirates are set up.

Waze tells me where all the speed cameras are. It's running non stop if I'm driving.

I keep Waze up no matter where I go. It’s good at really time traffic density and I always like seeing if there’s a hidden cop on my route.

They need to set up a different reporting category for Flock Cameras. People keep labeling them as “mobile police cameras” which they are not.

Yes, mostly for tips on where Officer Friendly is lurking but particularly on long trips, Waze will advise me of accidents that shut down the interstate and offers me a detour.

Another feature I like is Google Maps tells exact dollar amount tolls cost on the route

If you’re in a major urban area chances are the traffic is flowing enough to speed, so I only use for a customer meeting

For going to like the store or something no but for most places yes especially if interstate is involved.

I use map apps everywhere I go (except trips out within 3-4 miles of my house), even between work and home. The amount of time, frustration, and to a lesser extent gas I have saved over the last ~12 years* is significant. It also lets me contact someone and let them know I am going to be late as soon as possible.
* I said 12 years because IIRC that's when real-time traffic starting being effective
