We didn’t play baseball like that. Kickball for sure, but that would hurt in baseball.

I've never heard of this in life. Red hots are candy at the movie theater.

Where did you grow up? Apparently Cabbage Ball is a NOLA area thing. It was a "soft" large ball (about the size of a small head of cabbage) that you could play baseball with without the need for gloves.

Grew up in the 80’s. We’d modify baseball by playing with a semi-deflated basketball, and red hots were allowed, and ghost runners too for that matter.

We’d play in someone’s front yard most of the time. This one particular day, first base was a raised brick flower garden. I hit a zinger to the pitcher, and he proceeded to throw me out red hot style. He threw, I jumped, and it clipped my foot. I landed chest first on the corner of that raised brick flower garden. Broke 3 ribs, had 1 sticking out the side of my chest. Fun times.

Hell we wouldn't have ever though to do such a thing as NOT try to knock someone off their feet with a ball during a game. I seriously thought you could do it in baseball when I started playing little league because we did it when we played baseball at school and in the park without any adults around. We all thought it was the way the game was played. I can't imagine a bunch of kids in, say 1972, in Georgia, playing kick-ball and having ANY rules....if you couldn't get them out you could tackle them and hold until someone else could, if you were able to do so....
