I generally don't stand up at all, please do not ever do this at a business lunch. Being a Southern Gentleman and all that is fine on your own time, but it would be very awkward at a business meal.

Let me clarify. If I'm taking out the girls from the office, I will do this. But if I'm meeting a woman from another business, I don't get up unless it is to greet her. there's a difference.

You should always sit to her left also. I see guys at restaurants all the time sitting to their woman's right.

Usually, yes. However, I tend to sit with my back against the wall, facing out and I have to have my wife sit to my left because she talks soft. Too many years with the car radio jacked up.

If I stood up when my wife went to the restroom, the kids would also stand up all assuming we were leaving....massive confusion would ensue.

really? you would ask a AC repair guy to take off his hat in your house?

My brother owns an HVAC company. Hats are not allowed, uniforms are through Cintas - cleaned and pressed. Undershirts are mandated, and no ratty arse stained ones either. He also ask them to make sure their boots are cleaned before going into a residence.

Headwear, especially on men, looks terribly out of place to me indoors--distracting even.

Distracting from what? Their great facial features? Guess what they say about the navy is true.

I don't stand up. But I do hold doors, etc for ladies. I also open the car door for both my wife and my daughter, ALWAYS.
