Do you stand up when a woman stands up to leave the table?

Is this still a proper thing to do? Do you do it only for wives/girlfriends/dates or what?

Looking for some insight because my dad didn't teach me shite.

Depending on the setting I will if I remember to do so.

Depends on context. Formal meal, yes I would.

Like what type of setting? Relatively nice dinner at a nice restaurant, i.e. not Chili's.

The manners course my mom made me and my brother take said it was, but I only do it when I am on a date.

In a semi-formal or former dinner setting with a small group (or one on one), yes--both when they leave and return.

Otherwise, no. That's what I remember from our fork and knife block of instruction.

To be honest to most people it will look a bit like you're making too much of a show of things. The practice started dying out with our parents' generation, so I imagine that most younger kids will look at you crazy. Your date will be impressed if she's traditional.

Yes, also lunches. If I'm at a booth obvi that would be difficult to do and a little awkward.

Maybe I was just raised trashy, but I had never even heard of this until a few years ago. It doesn't even cross my mind to do this when eating out, although I do usually pull out my GF's chair if the person seating us doesn't. Depends on the quality of the restaurant on whether that happens or not.

However, if she's some batshit crazy ultra feminist, she will get upset if you do this or even hold a door for her.

Well hopefully I won't be on a date with a batshit crazy ultra feminist bunghole.

Ehhh. I haven't read an etiquette book in quite a while, but that's a stretch. I'd if you're seated first and a lady later joins, of course you stand. Many of us would stand even if a man joined because we intended to shake hands. I wouldn't stand at a business lunch if a lady got up to take a call or go to the rest room.

A few other basics for the OP (since your dad apparently didn't teach you shite) if on a date with a woman:

- open the car door for her
- if walking next to a street you should be on the street side of the sidewalk
- if walking up stairs, you are behind her
- if going down stairs, you are in front of her

Yes. And for any woman at the table. Unless I'm in the Middle East.

You should always sit to her left also. I see guys at restaurants all the time sitting to their woman's right.
