For every hillbilly in jean shorts and a NASCAR hat I see around here, there's another guy in khaki pleated pants, a polo, and a Bama/LSU/Georgia/UF/FSU hat. Most of them pull up in a $70k truck or equivalent.

A fair point.

Just proves you can't buy class...

You should always sit to her left also. I see guys at restaurants all the time sitting to their woman's right.

I always sit to the left and sleep on the left side of the bed because it's like I'm driving. Thanks, Jerry Seinfeld.

I also always drive. Even if it's her car.

Truth. I don't wear a hat to a nice place to eat, but if we stop at Whataburger before taking the boat out, I'm not worried about taking off my hat while I eat my Monterey Melt.

really? you would ask a AC repair guy to take off his hat in your house?

I have. And the plumber. And the guys who redid the flooring in my kitchen. I'm not mean and brodie about it. It's no different than the hipsters who ask me to remove my shoes.

I bet the plumber gave you an upper decker.

Unless I'm drunk.

She can drive then, but I'll still tell her how.

I generally don't stand up at all, please do not ever do this at a business lunch. Being a Southern Gentleman and all that is fine on your own time, but it would be very awkward at a business meal.

I do if I'm in a formal setting. Date, work dinner function, family holiday.

This for sure, definitely not during business type situations.

The idea of it has great intentions, so I don't want to bash it, nor do I think less of anyone who does it. But logically, it's pretty silly to think if I don't stand up when a woman stands up at a table that is somehow disrectful. That is one of those "That was just how it was done back in the day", and if that never was a norm then, no one would do it or even bat an eye at it, so it's just silly in that regard.

I was a fan from the beginning, but it's just my upbringing. I specifically mentioned that "if" I were a badass, I'd ask people in neutral settings like DD and Tony Soprano.

If I am in the way of her getting out of her seat, then yes. Or if I want to give her a hug or something like that to say bye that is also fine. But am I going to interrupt my meal to stand up while she simply goes to the ladies' room to put more makeup on. frick no.

Also I've seen hats debated, I don't wear my hat at the dinner table, idk why it just doesn't seem right to me. I also will usually take my hat off when entering a building, once again just force of habit.. But at the same time I won't look down on somebody else if they don't do the same. It is simply not that big of a deal

You have to use common sense. Obviously, if it is a large gathering, it would be ill-advised. You'd look like a jack-in-the box.

If I'm having lunch or dinner with one of our female customers, I will pull her chair out and use proper manners.

I don't, and I do pretty much all of the other gentlemanly things mentioned. I let women on and off the elevator first, walk on the street side of the sidewalk, etc. The standing for a woman to leave thing just doesn't make any sense to me. The other ones I listed actually serve a function. You walk closer to the street to protect the lady. You let them on first because it is a nice thing to do. I never got what standing up for a woman when she enters/leaves a room does. I guess my parents didn't really get it either, because they didn't teach me that like the other things while growing up.

I'm not saying people that do it are wrong, I just don't see the point. Maybe there was some point behind it back in the day.
