Do you sign the back of your credit cards?

I can't say that I have in 25+ years.
Supposedly the card is invalid if unsigned. Never been asked about it.
What is the benefit of signing it? My 1990s thinking was I didn't want someone to forge my signature.

many of the new cards don't have a place to sign

Yeah, I got a new card a few months ago and almost threw it away because it didn't have shite on the front of the card. Just thought it was junk mail, but I don't get much physical mail from that company and do all my business online. But it was a new card because mine had expired and all the information is on the back of the card. CC#, My name, and exp date. Just all printed on the back. Not an imprint like the usual debit/credit card.

I thought this way too, but if you really think about it, giving a sample for them to work from makes it easier to me. If I don't sign it a thief has no way to even remotely know how I sign my name. I think it is just a legacy of acceptance of the terms and conditions more than anything anymore.

USPS used to be Nazis about not accepting plastic unless it was signed.

There are people that want the government to be in charge of healthcare.

I write Check ID on the line. Know how many cashiers actually check. 1 out of 100. Always give that cashier a compliment.

My new cards don't have a place to sign and all the information is on the back. The front of the card is just an advertisement.
I don't even swipe my cards. Either I tap the card or my phone 95% of the time. You can even tap to pay at most nicer and chain restaurants now. It's really the mom and pops that are high end that don't have that option.

Never have and never been asked to look at it.

I was a real dick to one of our pain in the arse customers over this when I worked at a music store during high school. Made this dude sign his credit card in front of us then called the credit card company to make sure it wasn't a fraud - all for a stupid soundtrack cd.

Because up until about 10 years ago, most credit card companies didn't have immediate ways to shut down a stolen credit card until too much was spent on it. That was also when signing your credit card receipt everywhere was done away with - save places that ask for a tip on top of the total.
Now, with chips, they are tougher to replicate and cards are detected to be stolen before most owners even know their card is missing....

Yep. Then, the ones that do actually write on it smudges the second you put it back in your wallet.

I write, “ask for ID”. If they do, I tip them a bit more.

When I lived in Colorado they checked signatures pretty consistently. They actually checked your ID too. If the three signatures did not match, you’d better be pulling out some cash.
