Input them in the recycling bin that the city provides so they can throw them away. I'm under no illusion that I am saving the planet by "recycling" cans.

Germans are recycling fanatics. All the grocery stores here have machines that give you money back when you feed them aluminum cans and plastic bottles.

Aluminum is the one thing that is actually worth recycling. Everything else I would agree is a scam though. That said, the last time I loaded up the truck and brought them to a yard, I got a whopping $14.
We saved them for a while, but the residual sugar in the cans attracted fruit flies and that was the end of that.

put them in the recycle bin that the garbage men pick up every other week.

And then I’m convinced they just throw them all in the same pile.

Probably. I'm pretty sure there's been exposés on that.

But I get my virtue signal points for "doing my part", so there's that.

We had recycling at our old house, but at our new place they want to charge $10 a month to recycle, so we just throw them away.

No longer drink things found in aluminum cans, but when we did we'd put them out in a bag for the local guy who pedals through the area picking them up weekly as his side hustle.
this/this

In my neighborhood there's an old guy who picks them up on his morning walk and he gladly takes them.

Our recycling program in Kommiefornia is always broke because the government keeps stealing from it.
This leads to no money to pay the recycling centers so they close down. People would go to the recycle centers and they'd be closed or only open one day out of the week.
People caught on to the grift and just said F it and threw the aluminum and glass in their trash or the mandated recycle bin.
We supposedly have a Recycle Gestapo running around looking for recyclables in trash cans on pick up day, but I haven't seen them.

I just throw everything away. I haven’t even requested a recycle bin for our new waste management company, so there isn’t even the illusion that I’m recycling.

Aluminum and cardboard are the two things that MIGHT get recycled so I put those in the recycling bin. I wouldn’t drive 25 miles tho

Separate and recycle but it's pretty easy where I am.

New thing here is the organic matter compos recycling. Likely more useful than any of the others but it's a pain in the arse.

I worked offshore and they were all about recycling. It was in company policy, we were saving the planet, etc. We found out what we were sending on shore was getting trashed, so we stopped doing it. A company brown noser was transferred to us and sounded the alarm. He goes through all the trouble to get recycling going again, but when a legit recycler came along, they would not take the recycling. Food and other non-recycling items were found in the shipment, and they would send everything back to us and charge fees in addition to the premium fees paid for recycling. This was distracting us from the real focus of the hazardous environment we work in. A manager got the bills plus the headaches and cancelled that service in a flash.

We kept the recycle bins out to make the appearance that we were green to anyone who cared, which was noone.....including the brown noser

Its a virtue signaling scam.

Until I get a check for recycling, it all goes into the trash just like everything else

We were on a roadtrip for Wisconsin vs. MSU and tailgating with Spartan fans and we were taking our cans over to the trash, and their fans were going "what are you doing? Just throw them on the ground".

They pay a deposit in Michigan and the bums come through the lots after kickoff and pick up all the cans to claim the deposits.
