I mean, are we acting like this is a solid choice, to live in a fricking tent on the street? You have to be a special level of lazy to choose to sleep in a tent amongst the destitute on a measly $850/mo instead of getting a job to live indoors and not worry about your shite getting stolen, getting beaten, and watch my Prime on a regular TV.

This is bad as the argument that "poor isn't poor in the US because people have refrigerators!". Really? Is that how little we care about people these days?

no. I was at Taco Bell on Siegen one day. When I was leaving I saw the beginnings of a bum fight. I looked closer and realized it was a guy pushing a girl around. I drove up close to them and laid on the horn. The dude head butted her and ran off. It looked like a drug deal gone bad.

There was also another bum standing right next to a crepe myrtle just staring at it. He looked high AF.

They all look like this and act this way. If there was even one that was just really down on his luck, I could never distinguish him from the other 1000 that are strung out.

You wouldn't feel sorry for someone who was a victim of the foster care system who tossed them out on streets at 18 with no life skills? What about ones that come from dysfunctional parents that failed to provide guidance and only doled out neglect and abuse? Not a little bit sorry?

But how would you know they aren't just feeding you a line of bullshite to get their next high financed?

Like the guy who tells everyone he hasn't eaten in several days- holding a well-nourished dog on a leash. Sorry dude- but if you can't feed yourself, you have no business keeping a damn dog.

The folks standing outside the Walmart or near grocery stores in my small-ish town? Those folks just piss me the hell off. Dude, you're like maybe 30 years old, appear healthy (healthy to stand out in the heat and beg) and able to work. Clearly employable people out begging with their pitiful signs of desperation. Irks me to no end and I will NEVER give those folks a dime, a wave, or even a smile.

Exactly.

The dude I referenced in the other post literally used a story that he was RICH. That was a first. He asked if I knew what U-Club was, and I said yes of course. He said, "Ok good. That's where I live, and I just left my wallet at home and I need money for gas to get back. My girlfriend is pregnant." Etc etc.

Like dude, you think people are going to give you money with a story like that? If you were a normal person who lived in U Club and forgot your wallet at home, your supposed girlfriend would have driven it to you and you probably wouldn't be driving around with no gasoline in your vehicle.

Would Walmart or McD's hire someone who shows up to work every day off the street and smells like complete arse?

If they spend a week in the shelter without doing drugs they will work with them to get a job. They have to stay drug free and pull their weight though,....and they wont. Easier to beg.

Yeah I feel bad for people with severe mental illnesses and drug addictions.

Yes, cleaning up, getting off drugs, and getting a job sounds great on a message board. But some guy whos been on the street for years with no family and no one to support him getting clean is extremely difficult.

If they're bullshitting me about what though? Ask yourself what lead them to bullshite me and why are they are getting high? Is it masking a deeper pain? What happened in their life where they chose to be homeless and do drugs over being productive?

I don't really live in a high concentrated bum area. If I did, they wouldn't get my money.

A few weeks ago I was in the grocery store and the woman in front of me whom I've known since high school was having problems with her debit card. More than likely no money. She had three younger kids with her and all she had were the essentials (milk, bread, eggs, etc) It was like 20 bucks total and I paid for it. She seemed down on her luck so I didn't mind. Now if It would have been a food stamp card she was trying to get to work or some ribeyes on the conveyor, no way would I have offered.

My neighbor hasn't worked in 15 years and goes to welcome centers and truck stops and gets good money by lying about his family but has the audacity to say he works hard to get his money.

That same woman and man who are apparently in business as professional beggars....no.

Someone with mental illness, yes.

Druggies...no. there are programs to help those with substance abuse problems, but they take issue with it as they can no longer get their fix.

Getting burned by the ones who frequent this area will tend to do that. "Real Character" has nothing to do with it. Put me down again for a "no"- and put it in all caps.

I saw a woman kill off a light cycle at Airline & Bluebonnet by holding a bill out her window and waiting for the guy to casually walk over and grab it.

She deserved the ticket she never got, for that one- and he deserved to be moved along.
