I used to feel sorry for the street corner beggars until I read an article from a homeless advocate who wrote: Do not give them a dime. Free money keeps them on the street

I only feel sorry for the homeless people's dogs. Makes me feel sad because they don't deserve that.

I don’t feel sorry for them. They have more money than I do. I always see them in 7/11. Straight off the median, in to 7/11 to buy smokes, Steel Reserve, and scratch offs. I’ve always been jaded, but the influx of these good for nothings has made it impossible for me to have compassion for the 2% that actually deserve it.
It’s tough because I have 12 yr olds that you try to instill love for others in, but when you hear “Dad, that guy just threw the food you gave him in the street.”, it makes it easier. frick em.

They always try to look you in the eyes at redlights/intersections. I always stare right back at them.
If I'm walking or pumping gas and they approach either asking for money or with some bullshite story, I always say, "shite dude, the same thing literally happened to me and I was about to ask YOU if you could help me out!"

What's up with the young couple that sits out there in chairs with a baby and a young boy. I have seen them in multiple cities. The used to hang out in Laplace. They were in Gonzales today and last week they were on coursey. They look reasonably dressed and are always smiling

Every now and then I buy a whole rotisserie chicken from safeway and I go find a homeless person that looks like they need a meal. No one has ever turned it down or back talked me but I am choosing someone who really needs it.
Giving money is never an option. Want some money?
Come do some yard work.

So, this is all about how you "feel". Got it. You get to pontificate to us because you "feel" the proper way. Not that you'll actually do anything tangible to help these poor, unfortunate wretches. That would be asking too much. Simply feeling empathy is sufficient to lord it over us emotional Philistines. Duly noted.

I am a retired police officer and I dealt with many homeless people. I can tell you a lot of them have a lot of mental issues. A lot of them also have drug and/or alcohol addictions. We cut back on helping the mentally ill decades ago and now these mentally ill people either become homeless, school shooters or politicians

I live East of Atlanta and coming off Stone Mountain Hwy onto Mountain Industrial there is a group of them that cycle out each day and stay at an extended stay hotel right off the highway. They hold up traffic all the time and occasionally a guest beggar comes out and weaves in and out of the lanes of traffic. I'm amazed one hasn't been hit by a car and killed.

I am somewhat sympathetic if they don’t frick with me or annoy me in any way. I don’t feel sorry for them at all if they ask for money or anything like that though.

I do as well but most those dogs with homeless people are likely better off with them than at a shelter where they could be put down. The homeless people looking after em tend to take care of em and are decent companions. I remember giving one homeless lady with a dog a bottle of water I had on a hot summer day. She immediately gave the water to the dog.
Food and water is always nice to give someone struggling on the st, if you have some. Money you never know what they will do with.

100% fact. I've seen it with my own 2 eyes. 90% are not ready to get sober and work for a paycheck. 10% mentally ill.

In Baton Rouge, a popular spot is off Siegen and Interstate. Almost every single one there used to get fed for free at the Deli in the shopping center. They pool a few dollars each, and rent rooms weekly at the horrible hotels off of Rieger Road. They beg for a few hours. Take their cash, go to the room, and do drugs until they pass out.
They wake up, walk over to McCalister's, get perfectly good food that will be thrown out that day. They eat. Rinse. Repeat.
The money you give them is being used strictly for rental of the hotel room, which is a tiny portion, and the rest is spent on drugs. That's the truth.
This man knows how Siegen operates. Don't forget to add stealing from Target and Home Depot to sell on Facebook Marketplace.
