Nope. Most are rude and act like you owe them. I hate it when ppl give them money. In most cases their family and friends probably cut them off yet strangers are giving handouts allowing them to "get by" instead of forcing them to make a change.

If I leave sporting event and my team won…the homeless will be paid. Especially the dudes that have a dog or can play drums on a bucket.

who remembers the ATL OG Bum holding the "Why Lie? I need a Beer" sign at the 10th St exit off 85s?

It made me laugh 20 years ago, but never gave him any $

I once had a lady approach me pushing a stroller and asked for money so that she could feed her baby. Noticing that she was smoking and had a pack of cigarettes in her shirt pocket I commented that she could get food for her baby if she didn't spend her money on cigarettes.

I have no sympathy in a situation like that.

Not particular to the original question, but I once was getting gas when a man asked for money so that he could get enough gas to get to Lafayette. I did go into the store and paid for a few gallon to get him home.

I walked into the bathroom of the public library in Shreveport and saw a vagrant using the sink to bathe himself. There also used to be a pretty well known bum who would hang out in the Germantown library on the computers always trying to watch porn; he supposedly had a well off family but chose the street bum lifestyle

But honestly I don't feel sorry for most of them. I had a revelation in college when I used the Garden District bus one time and I witnessed 2 guys get picked up and write up their signs while on the bus and overheard them talk their strategy and when they'd call it quits and go home for the day, and realized they're not even homeless. So no, I'm not giving out money that I worked for to people who are capable of working for it themselves but just want to be lazy

Of course. Fostering empathy for those beneath your station and caring for the poor are indispensable planks of the three great Abrahamic religions.

Whether addiction, mental illness or simple laziness, life is hard and we all have short comings.

None of that means you need to empty your wallet for a bum on the street. There are no shortage of organizations and services that seek to put these people on a better path and those organizations depend on us feeling some level of empathy for those among us that have fallen.

We’ve all made choices in life that led to where we are now, and so did the panhandlers at intersections.

From this point, I could make horrible decisions that put me at intersections begging for money, and the people there now can make great decisions that lead to prosperity. But chances are I’ll continue to make good decisions, and they’ll continue to make bad decisions.

I’m not responsible for anybody else’s life choices, and I’m not responsible for rescuing anybody from their bad choices.

I feel sorry for anyone who has made bad choices in life. There but for the Grace of God go I.

I've done volunteer ministry in Street Kitchens. I did it because Jesus told me I needed to do this if I wanted heaven. You know, feed the hungry and cloth the naked.

As I looked into the eyes of those homeless men and at least one hungry mother with three hungry children, I knew I was one bad decision from being just like them, on the street living under an overpass.

God had mercy on me. I belong to God. Satan accuses, Jesus loves.

Vive in me Domine Deus , ut vivam ad plenissimam, Amen

Yes. Whether they have mental illness or addiction, I feel bad where they are in life and, especially for addiction, I feel bad for their family as well.

Do I help them? No, there are plenty of resources out there for when they decide to get help.

I'm honestly in the camp that feels we don't do enough for the truly needy and downtrodden. All of the other scam artists ruin it for the needy. Some you just can't help but feel sorry for.

F**k no.

They impede traffic thanks to the goobers who STOP to hand them a dollar.

And it goes without saying that many if not most of them steal. Don't leave anything you don't want to walk away unguarded in the Siegen area.

A bible quote from Proverbs is the most downvoted post in this thread. That's something.

Hell no. I don't feel in the least bit sorry for them. The number of social programs and halfway houses paid for by govt are at a record high. I don't feed the bums. No money, no food. Nothing but disdain. They choose to live like that. The dems have chosen to allow them out of the institutions they used to be bound to. I choose to not live around them or contribute any F's.
