Do you feel any inclination to actively reach out and help those less fortunate than you?

It costs so much to live. Most people with kids of their own don’t have much to give.

I don't believe in charity. I also don't believe in profiting off of others' misfortune.

I do, all the time. Guy asked me for money the other day. I lied and said I had none. He teared up.
I said "look, I got to pick up something from Sammy's, take a ride(we were at Lowe's across street) and I'll get you two to go plates and a drink, a beer of you'd like".
He refused the beer and took the two to go plates. He was very happy.
I felt good. The day before Thanksgiving at least he had food.

Traverlers though, I don't give to.

I don't just randomly give because I don't trust people. I will donate if it's going to a good cause and I know the people really need it.

I do it constantly, often over my wife's objections. And anonymously, too. I don't need any pat on the back, I ain't running for office or in need of putting myself out in the public so they can ooh and aah over me. In fact, if not for this anonymous message board I wouldn't even say this in public.

I grew up poor as shite. My dad was a WWII vet who saw a lot of combat and grew up almost an orphan in the depression. Money never meant squat to him and he'd give you the shirt off his back. My mom, same deal. Immigrant family who were looked down on.

So, it's in my gene's to help someone else including any of you dickheads on here even if I knew you were dickheads.

If I had everything I'd "wasted" on others, or gave away, I'd have a couple more hundred grand in the bank I'd guess.

You get far more back compared to what you give.
And its not just the gratitude but more importantly the perspective.

You realize how much you really have, you realize what it really most important. If you allow you can feel God moving through you and that reminds you that he is real and that we are all his children.

None of us greater than or less than any other.

In my business, I try to help people out as much as I am able. Often, after the dopamine high of helping another wears off, I feel like I was scammed.

I realize, that the people that really need your charity, are too proud to ask.

We are to love one another as He has loved us.

I typically try to. And then, because of the implication, they can’t say “no”

This is the way giving should be done. Publicly bragging about how much you give is shameless self-promotion, not giving.
