Change your attachment to the situation.
When I give to another person the second that resource leaves my possession, I lose my attachment to it. If you think of giving as some sort of investment into someone’s life then more often than not you will be disappointed. I choose to give to others because I figure that bar five decisions in my life going the other way, I could be just like them, and out of gratitude of not being in that position, I give forward. It’s a gift, not an investment, so I don’t have any control or concern about the outcome of its use.

No. Adults are poor by their own doing: shitting out kids they cant feed, filling their lives with cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol, and feeling luxury items are a "necessity".
Might help kids though. They don't get to decide who they are born to.

I'm just trying to get myself in position of comfort. When I own my own accounting firm, I plan on having a college and highschool paid internships.

I sponsor a child through Compassion International. She is 11 years old and lives in Bolivia. I have been her sponsor since she was 5. We write to each other every month or so. To learn how she lives, and how she gets excited about such simple things really makes you think about what’s important in life.
Compassion provides meals, tutoring and spiritual guidance. Many of the kids that go through the program go on to college. It cost me about $550 a year. Well worth it to provide a child living in those conditions a chance to make a better life for themselves.

Yes I do......and I did. Mainly because my boss (Jesus Christ) said that if I want to make it to heaven I need to reach out to the poor. Remember there is material poverty and spiritual poverty. Sometimes the poor come to you in the person of a friend or fellow worker. He or she just needs someone to talk to, someone who will take time to listen.
Besides I'm happiest when I'm helping the disadvantaged. Over the years, in three major cities, I've had some amazing experiences doing just that.....helping the poor. Met some absolutely amazing people who exhibited great courage under very difficult circumstances.
To you out there......take a chance. Try it. It will change your whole outlook on life and you'll suddenly find that all your problems are minuscule compared to these folks.
Better to light ONE candle....than curse the darkness.

my wife and i help a family every year, have done it with our kids every year since they were old enough to understand will do it again this year. i don't need anything. if it wasen't for others i would have had nothing for christmas.

I don’t make enough to donate really, but if a guy comes up and asks for food then I’ll buy it. I don’t give cash though.
Like some baw came up and asked me for money outside of Panda Express the other day, I offered to buy him food and he told me to frick off.

Yes i do donate to st jude. But the government has taken over for providing to the poor and even not so poor by way of entitlement and welfare programs. We all donate to that.

Most have more to spare than they care to admit. There’s also options ranging from time, to just being mindful and using resources that donate (like amazon smile).
There are a lot of “I can’t” answers that are just a way of saying it’s not important to me but I don’t want to sound bad.
But yes, there are segments that are much tighter resources than others.

Didn't have a lot as a youngster but I had wonderful parents. Dad died from leukemia when I was a student at LSU so I often give blood or money to families dealing with that or other illnesses. I treat other people's kids to events that I never had the opportunity to attend, like the symphony, ballet, athletic contests, etc.
Paid a family's electric bill tonight, $352.95, so they wouldn't be shut off. Frick Entergy.

Of course. Although I'm not as active lately, I have worked with a local non profit for a few years now.

Absolutely! Every month I pay income tax, and property tax every year. I'm very generous.
