Do you consider a 1000% price change increase over a 20 year period reasonable?

That's a CAGR (Compound average growth rate) of over 12% per year.
That's the approx cost of LSU in-state tuition...seems insane to me. That's JUST tuition...no other costs for housing meals etc

This is what happens when "everyone" needs a degree for every basic job
Posted on 4/11/25 at 10:41 am to sidewalkside
When you give out grant money for pointless degrees, don't require repayment for dropouts, let everyone in for anything, etc, this is what you get.

You can blame the Federal government and student loans.

I’d be interested in how that compares to other similar schools. TOPS is objectively a welfare program that one would think has to have a part in that.
I’m very much team college, and think it should be an educational experience not job training, but something has to be figured out

Everything should be an apprenticeship
It doesn’t take a college degree to sell insurance or whatever lsu claims to prepare kids for

More importantly, this is what happens when the state and federal governments subsidize those degrees to the tune of tens of billions of dollars per year. Instead of going to extra instructors, more of the money goes to expanding middle management and useless fluff rather than hiring more teachers.

Yes, I do, and as with most situations like this the federal government is to blame. This is what happens when you subsidize and give out free money to certain individuals and institutions. The balance of the capitalistic markets is completely thrown off. Pretty much all colleges are bloated with unnecessary administration. You have to turn off the free money spigot if you want it to become more affordable.

Universities are continuing to raise their tuition rates and those are exceeding the actual ROI on their degrees. A degree in the 90s that would cost you maybe $50k over 4 years AFTER living expenses now costs you $50k EVERY 4 years.
Programs like TOPS were designed for lower income families, but since they removed the income restriction, anyone can take it. This same practice is going towards private schools across the state thanks to Landry's "brilliant" plan of trying to get government funding for private schools. All we will see is tuition increases.

And would be so easy to fix. Pay it back if you drop out, pay it back if you leave the state within 5 years of graduation (or something to that effect)

Like the everyone should buy a house push. Even if you can't afford it.

I’d like to know what they did with all of those useless f*cking DEI department administrators now that they have "allegedly" gotten rid of that department. Did they just reassign them so that they can keep doing the same racist f*cking bullsh!t just under a different name in different departments, or, did they get rid of them like they f*cking should have?

Very few on TD understand the implications of this graph

Free in-state tution isn't free.
Like most colleges, LSU is extremely poorly-managed from a financial standpoint, and it will never change.
Ever.

I couldn’t help but chuckle when all the feigned wealthy boomers were saying that a 10% drop in the stock market the other day didn’t affect them

Thousand percent sounds like a lot, but price needs to double just 3 times.
If the initial price is low, no big deal.

LSU Annual Tuition 2005:
In-state (resident) - $4,419
Nonresident - $12,719
LSU Annual Tuition 2025:
Resident - $12,472
Nonresident - $29,148
That's +182%.

What does Charlie Kirk always say to college students? Oh yeah, he says college is a scam!

Need to scale back the hours of required fluff classes.
