That Saturday morning before the derby I woke up and heard ‘number 7’ in my grandpa’s voice

So I told my parents to bet number 7, they laughed but bet it for me, and it won.

No. Slept at the Myrtles Plantation for week, with running video, and didn't see or hear shite after review.

This is all I've got.

Back when my son was first born, my now ex-mother-in-law came down to help out her daughter since I worked night shifts at the time.

So, one day I get off work and get home around 7:30 in the morning and head into the kitchen of the old shotgun house we lived in at the time. When I get in the kitchen my MIL asks what took me so long to get to the kitchen since she saw me going into the room where my son had his nursery set up several minutes prior.

I explained that I had just gotten home and came straight into the kitchen and then she said she realized the person she saw was wearing different clothes than I had on at the time.

The room my son had his nursery set up in was also the room my dad dropped dead in when I was just a kid of 8 years old. Maybe he came to check in on his grandchild while he had a chance.

I sold that house about 3 years later and the elderly couple that bought it abandoned it about 2 years later, although I never got the story about that.

My grandmother in New Orleans used to like to take the bus to go shopping on Canal Street. Different time, different demographics…Anyway, she passed away in her half of the double. The other side of the double was occupied by my aunt, uncle, and a couple of cousins. Years after grandma died, my youngest cousin had a friend come over to play at the house for the first time. The little girl saw a photo of my grandmother and said she just talked to that woman. She said my grandmother was sitting on the steps out front and told the girl she was going to catch the bus.

I have never told anyone this story.

I was in Saudi Arabia working when my mother died. I landed in Memphis and went to my gate to wait on flight home. As soon as sat down, I had a calm feeling come over me and my mother started talking to me. She told she was ok, not to worry and she loved me. Never felt like that since but it gave me peace, even to this day.

A few years ago, I nearly died. After a few weeks in the hospital, I got to go home.

My wife said something came home with me.

Over the next few days and the interactions with our animals, I believed her.

My dog hopped up on the couch where I was kicked back with a blanket. He layed down at my side and I began petting him.

As I start nodding off he looks at me and panicked. He jumped away and began barking, growling and showing his teeth. He was terrified.

A few days later our cat tried to rip my face off while I was taking a nap. Drew blood with her claws before I woke up and knocked her away.

I often wonder what it was they saw.

No. I will say that dogs do bark at things that aren't there in haunted places.

I don't really know any African Americans that have ever seen a ghost, but they told me certain things that most believe. One morning a black coworker came to work and she looked extremely tired. I asked her if she had a bad night and she told me that she didn't sleep at all during the night. I asked her why she couldn't sleep. She told me that the reason she didn't sleep was because she had a witch riding her back. I never heard of this before and she explained to me what it meant. I know a young black couple that recently moved into a house where a woman died. I told them that the woman's spirit might visit them. They told me that no spirit would ever bother them because they had a ditch in front of their house. I asked what that meant and they told me that ghosts can't cross over running water.

It honestly depends on how religious a person is and whether or not they believe in the afterlife.

As an irreligious guy, I never believed in the possibility of ghosts for almost my entire life until I saw the film “The Polar Express” several months ago. There’s a scene with the hobo and the boy on the train and the hobo says “Seeing is believing, am I right?” Then a couple of seconds later he asks the boy “do you believe in ghosts?”. The boy could clearly see him and that was the whole point.

That scene made me question what’s real and what’s not. It made me confront the possibility that there may be another dimension or alternate reality that none of us can see. It’s trippy but surreal at the same time.

The dark reality of life is that no one knows what’s on the other side, and that’s why the concept of religion exists. The unknown facts about what happens to a person after they die is something that people have speculated about for thousands of years.

I'm really torn on the subject. I'm atheist, but I've lived in a house that was supposedly haunted and had a couple of very inexplicable things happen to me personally while there, and multiple family members saw and heard things too. We even had a former resident of the house pay us a visit when he came to pick up some mail not long after we moved in, and he started asking us if we'd seen things that he saw and I saw my mom go white as a sheet and say that she did.

I'm absolutely fascinated by the videos online. I believe they're most likely all horseshite, but some of them can be compelling. I also love the haunted exploration shows.. the tension gets me.

I'd like to say no, but I'm practical enough to know that we don't know everything.

I've seen a couple weird things over my life, few and far between.

Maybe the most memorable was coming back to the family house the day after my dad passed (at home with hospice, and he was peaceful and ready for it). Next day, a red cardinal flew in through the back door, and perched on the leather sofa my dad used to sit at- which was another room away from that door. My brother and I thought it was neat, had never seen anything like that ever; we had dogs, and birds never came into the house. It hung out about 10 minutes, not scared of us at all, and not bothered by the dogs (who looked at it the whole time, but didn't act crazy like we'd expect them to). Then it flew off, and out through a window we'd opened so it could go. Heck, we even took a few pictures with our phones. Never seen a bird so chill in such a weird place.

Thought it was neat, told our sister about it (in another state, she hadn't come in for the funeral yet). She texted back about 15 minutes later, some stories about how cardinals are supposed to be spiritual messengers. I'd never heard that before, but when I looked into it there's a lot of stuff about it.
Do I think my dad dropped by to say goodbye and wish us luck? I don't really know, but I just can't swear that he didn't. I wouldn't mind if it turned out he did.

More recently, one of my son's cats died after a long and happy life, following my son around for close to 2 decades. Siamese-looking fella, nice old dude. My son buried him in the yard by some azaleas, even put a little stone piece there (my son loved that cat). Next spring, was doing some work in the yard, and darned if there wasn't a Siamese-looking cat, sitting on that stone watching us. Never saw a stray Siamese around my house before, or since. I took a few pictures, and called my son out to see. He stayed there awhile, then when we started to walk over (curiosity, ya know?), he hopped away down the street. Never seen that cat since. Rationally, I'm sure it falls into the realm of coincidence. But again, I'm ok with the possibility that a spoiled, loving family pet would check in on his human buddy. Wouldn't threaten my worldview at all.

I’ve never been a devote believer. However, sitting bedside holding your father’s hands as he takes his last breaths and feeling the sensation of a non-existent comforting hand gripping your shoulder just moments prior to a nurse entering the room to confirm death - experiences like that really makes you ponder life and reality.

I don’t really know if I do or not, but I do have a weird story. When I was younger (probably 8ish) my aunt and uncle got married at Oak Alley. At the time the wedding party essentially had free roam of the house, so my cousins and I (one is probably about 4 years older, the other a year younger than me) were on the second floor, and we all swear we saw two young kids, a boy and a girl younger than us, sitting on a bed in a room on the second floor. We all even agree on what they were wearing, white outfits (boy a shirt and shorts, girl a dress) with red accents. Both in calf high white socks. I don’t know if it was a childish game we were playing, but I know now nearly 30 years later we all still think we saw those two kids and all three of us still share the exact same story.

I don’t believe in ghosts or the supernatural per se but something did happen to my family. My grandfather passed away when I was 12. He was very close to my dad. The night of his funeral I was laying in bed staring at the ceiling because I couldn’t sleep. It was 11:31. I still remember it vividly till this day. He was talking outside of my bedroom door. I don’t know what he said or who he was talking to but the voice just kind of faded out the end of the hallway. I ran out my bedroom door and no one was awake or had their door open. I didn’t bring it up or mention it to anyone else until a couple of days later I was sitting at the table for breakfast when I asked my mom if she heard someone talking in the hallway around midnight the night of his funeral. She turned white as a ghost and said that her and my dad couldn’t sleep that night but both of them sat up in the bed at the same time after hearing his voice drift through the room then fade out the wall behind them. I don’t know what you would call that or what he said but it definitely happened
