U.S. diesel prices hit $6 per gallon on Friday for the first time ever, as fuel supply disruptions triggered by the Ukraine and Iran wars raises transportation costs across the entire economy.
Truckers and farmers are paying about 63% more to fill up their semis and tractors than they did at this time last year, according to data from AAA. The average price nationwide is now about $6.06 per gallon.
Prices are even higher in California, the biggest agriculture state in the U.S., at $7.98 per gallon.
Fuel costs are rising as crude oil prices have surged in response to a sharp escalation in fighting between the U.S. and Iran this month. U.S. crude oil futures topped $100 per barrel on Thursday for the first time since May. The contract has gained about 20% in September.
Diesel is the real lifeblood of the economy even though consumers tend to pay more attention to retail gasoline prices, said Bob McNally, president of Rapidan Energy, in an interview with CNBC’s “The Exchange” on Tuesday.

The wars in Eastern Europe and the Middle East have shut down refineries with about 5 million barrels per day of capacity, said Valero Chief Operating Officer Gary Simmons on the U.S. refiner’s July 30 earnings call.
The world has lost nearly 8% of its diesel supply with little spare refining capacity available to make up the shortfall, said Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates, in a Wednesday note.

“U.S. refineries are running at 98% utilization rates — there is just no spare capacity,” Croft said.

The Trump enforcers will be here soon to slap down any criticism and declare this to be the best thing for America, 72D chess.

Trump is going to cost the GOP the midterms with his poor handling of Iran and the issue of gas prices.

Lake America though. Focus on what matters here.

I am so glad the libtards and environmentalist whackos have made sure we didn't build any new refineries. Its working out great.

I've been saying this for 3 months now. We are going to have a partial socialist leftist govt because of these two things.

Yes, prices will always go up.
In 1950, the headline was "Diesel has reached $1/Gallon for the FIRST TIME IN HISTORY"

Trump has been president 6 of the last 10 years buddy. It's time to quit blaming only the libtards. Both sides fricking suck.
That's what I hate about this culture war so much. It benefits the politicians because of the deep wedge it's driven between the citizens of America. The politicians aren't paying the price. The citizens are. That said, we're the only ones to blame for going along with it.
Back to OP, it's hard to see these prices coming down substantially any time soon. As it currently stands, neither side wants to flench and seem weak.
This was a stupid war to go into. Even if you believe the reasoning behind it, you can't still believe Iran has the ability to make a nuke. We long ago took away their ability to make a nuke. How long ago just depends on who you listen to and believe. That said, why are we still there? It's doing nothing but hurting Americans. Iranians haven't had shite since the 70s, so it's not really hurting them.

Using inflation adjusted values, today's price is the 3rd highest it's ever been. 2008 still holds the record at $7.15 (adjusted from $4.70). Today's price is also self-inflicted. The price of diesel was $3.76 before we started bombing Iran.

That will drive up the cost of everything since we are an 18 wheeler transport country.

You odd characters who say complainers are poor don't know any hard working 1 ton truck driving guys we take it. Regular folks in rural counties who use their trucks to work with and not just run from home to the office or plant in. Is my assumption right? You're city boys?

Refiners are shutting down refineries to keep capacity full during lean times. No one wants to pay for spare capacity.
Italy is paying over $9/gallon of diesel right now. Yeah, that isn't impossible for the US at this point.
Europe may start the recession at this pace, but once the first domino falls.....
