Using inflation adjusted values, today's price is the 3rd highest it's ever been. 2008 still holds the record
We dont talk enough about how fricking horrible 2008 was.
Highest price of oil was $147.27 WTI and $147.50 on July 3, 2008. The average for the month of July 2008 is still a record as well, at 128.08/barrel.
That's about $224.28; $224.63 and $195.05 respectively in today's dollars. Inflation rates for June, July and August 2008 were 5.0, 5.6, and 5.4% respectively. Then they started tumbling down and we had nine months of deflation in 2009.

Trump has been president 6 of the last 10 years buddy. I
well buddy, it takes about 10-12 years to build a new refinery. Largely due to regulations enacted by libtards and environmentalists. And that's not even addressing the opposition and legal battles the libtard environmentalists start over the construction of one. So you may- may- have a point that Trump hasnt done enough to encourage new construction. But you can't deflect the 99% of blame the libtards own for their role in obstruction.

And that doesn't even account for what the Houthi's did yesterday....

Before Trump came into office my car could only hold $60 worth of gas. Now that Trump is in office, my car can now hold $90 worth of gas.

Unless Trump is going to build and maintain a refinery for them no one is sinking their own money into a venture.

Sucks the media can’t factor this into their scare tactic headline

Refiners are shutting down refineries to keep capacity full during lean times.
Or sacrifice them at the altar of climate change. RIP Shell Convent

If Shell Convent was that valuable someone would buy it.

Refiners all see the writing on the wall with demand going down
They weren’t going to sink billions into new refineries regardless of the regulatory environment

Aren't there refineries built and off-line that can be brought back online at fractional costs and time (compared to new builds)?
I mean, we're all getting 5K dividend checks. What if he reduced them to 4K and built infrastructure w the "extra"...

We long ago took away their ability to make a nuke. How long ago just depends on who you listen to and believe. That said, why are we still there?

You odd characters who say complainers are poor don't know any hard working 1 ton truck driving guys we take it. Regular folks in rural counties who use their trucks to work with and not just run from home to the office or plant in. Is my assumption right? You're city boys?
Nah. From the swamp bruh! I just find it useless to "Post Bitch" about something that's uncontrollable. Not to mention I'm currently drilling a deepwater well in the GoA.

There are. No one is going to risk their capital on a shitty investment return. There are reasons every refinery is shut down. And it isn't because they were printing money.

Are you saying to nationalize the refining sector? Because it sounds like you are saying nationalize the refining sector, comrade.

Was on the market for all of 3 months before it was shut down and de-inventoried. Also, Shell's asking price was artificially high as they had already taken the write off on idling it.
It made money when Motiva ran it.

It can make money now.
If you had 200MM you could get a lot better return than buying an oil refinery long term.
