I remember when Walmart had actual cops at the exits checking receipts. Do they still have that? I haven’t been to a Walmart in a minute.

I've never seen this in all my life, and I've been in WalMarts all around the country.

Louisiana truly must be some kind of hellhole for this to have been a thing.

It’s theft you damn idiot, theft!

Any idiot in business that says this probably also says circle back, team, reach out, new normal, champion and whatever other buzzword they can think of.

And that’s no one I’d want to work for.

I don't know about y'all, but I'm pretty surprised that when you lower penalties for theft, or in some cases decline to prosecute it, that you start getting more of it. Who could have predicted this?

Too many pieces of shite in this country unfortunately. And they are being allowed to act how they want more than ever.

What would help is some sort of organized citizen's movement dedicated to stemming this tide of lawlessness... a secret society of sorts to counterbalance the tendencies of a faraway federal government that despises us.

The members would have to keep their identities secret. Some sort of ad hoc, face-concealing uniform would have to be used for their activities... nothing too fancy, just something improvised from commonly available household goods.

They could appropriate Protestant imagery to make their benevolent purpose clear to the lawful citizens of rural America.

You'd want to avoid relying on technology too much in this enterprise, to keep it clandestine. You know what doesn't have a GPS receiver? A horse.

I'm really just throwing out ideas here, but if such a group were to organize and do the job I've outlined, I think it would receive (almost) universal acclaim. Entire counties might be named after its founders, for example.

Hmmm, sounds like your taking my statement about “pieces of shite” to only mean a certain group, as opposed to crappy people as a whole.

Did you do that on

As far as organized stealing, you can pay to stop that too. Hire a cheap security guard.

Yeah, every time you see video of people stealing, the employees just take their phones out and record it (like handing that over to the cops is going to result in anything). The stores have instructed their people not to get involved, so I don't care if they're losing money. It's literally their own fault.

Need to hire some Sikhs and give them big clubs. And then some rooftop Koreans.

When your response to theft is to fire employees that try to stop it and write laws making it unpunishable as long as they don't steal $1000 worth of merchandise in one go, you specifically incentivize this behavior. I'm convinced they're trying to do away with brick and mortar stores and make everything online. Soon you'll start to see more Amazon cars be broken into

Last Week the Zachary Police were looking for men accused of "Failure to render payment for goods." when leaving the Zachary Home Depot.

It's absurd how they have to word this shite these days to avoid cocksucker attorneys to get their clients off on 'technicalities'.

Doesn't their insurance make up for that?

I'm guessing their insurance doubled when it came time to renew. Same result. Decrease in profits.

My ex GF (no pics) ran the Nordstrom in Galleria Houston for years and had enough and got out of the industry because they told her not to fight shoplifters and then would ding her for loss prevention.

These stores will have to start hiring door guards who will buzz people in. Lock that shite down like the Rooftop Koreans.

Most of these stores’ policies wouldn’t allow a security guard to do anything about it… they are so afraid of lawsuits they fire employees who try to stop it.

Yeah, I’ve seen security guards just standing around in several of those videos, presumably because of store policy. I reckon they are the human equivalent of this:

Had a storage unit for a few weeks a while back, and they had multiple of those owls to scare away pigeons. Nonetheless, there was still pigeon shite everywhere, which also fits this analogy.

At some point litigation will be cheaper than the shrinkage.

I’ve represented several large, cost-conscious, public companies who have brought money-losing suits to make a point or set a precedent. An example of this is media companies suing people who download music or videos. (I’ve never been involved in this litigation, and I’m not saying whether I agree with their tactics—just using as an example of litigation motivated by something other than direct money recovery.)

I agree that at some point they will overcome their fear of defending ridiculous lawsuits if backed into a corner. But I wish they would take it one step further and countersue the would-be thief. Go scorched earth, take everything they have, garnish their wages if possible, etc. Woke policies aside, there are probably good business reasons not to do this (e.g., optics, perhaps), but I’m a vindictive bastard when it comes to stuff like this.

They also rebranded from Dicks Sporting Goods to Dicks House of Sport which is an awful name.
