Yall realize this is the state senator who banned herself from La Casinos and then got issued a misdemeanor for violating it?

March 2019
quote:

Karen Carter Peterson, who is both a state senator from New Orleans and chair of the state Democratic Party, disclosed in an email Friday night that she has a gambling problem — minutes after WWL-TV posted a news story reporting that she had violated a ban on entering Louisiana casinos. A Louisiana State Police trooper issued her a misdemeanor summons for violating a self-imposed ban when she gambled at L’Auberge Casino in Baton Rouge last month, the station reported. A State Police spokesman confirmed that his agency issued the summons but declined to comment while the misdemeanor charge is under review by Hillar Moore III, the East Baton Rouge Parish district attorney.

I’ve never once seen a proposal to incorporate that area fully into BR. Maybe I missed it.

What are the realistic chances that St. George passes in October?

Injustices? What does that bitch see as an injustice with this movement? That the rich people are not going to be footing the bill for those that chose to sit on their arse watching their big screen TVs collecting welfare? And the ones that aren't actually sitting on their asses are out destroying anything of value.

BR is in bad shape. If the SG split happens, BR will turn into a dump, even worse than it is currently. The only part of that that bothers me is that I happen to work within the city.

The language of the bill requires the City of St. George to assume its share of the parish debt if it breaks away. That’s estimated to be around $100 million.

Is the city of St. George no longer going to be in EBR? Are they no longer going to pay taxes to the parish of EBR?

With every passing moment, it becomes just how clear those in the CITY of BR were ripping off people who lived in unincorporated EBR parish.

Also, it wasn't listed in the OP, but KCP also said something to the effect of, they are just doing this to undermine Broome.

Remind me, who was the mayor-president when all this started? Was it Broome?

I wasn't really clued in to much politics when Central formed, I was too busy partying... but was it this hostile?

The city of BR pretty much stopped incorporating residential areas around the time of the city parish merger in 1980.

Kenilworth was the last one pre-merger and I believe Sherwood between Airline and I-12 finished a year or two after the merger.

The idea at the time was “If you have a merged city-parish, you don’t need to keep incorporating areas into the city.” Yeah, not so much.

100%.

I figured these numbers for another post but figured you would enjoy.

For the 2015 governor's race, the St. George precincts had a 45.7% turnout.

Which would mean if the turnout is the same in 2019, about 23,674 people will actually vote (51,804 registered voters in the St. George area). If half of the petition signers actually vote (which I would imagine would be much higher), they would have 8,551 votes (17,102 signatures). The remaining 15,123 voters would have to vote "no" at a 78.5% clip.

Basically, if overall turnout is the same as 2015, the petition signers would win the election if 70% (69.23% but who's counting?) of signers show up to vote.

I did the same for the 2016 presidential election when ~73% voter turnout and the non-petition signers would have to vote still at a 70%+ to defeat this effort. If I had to bet, the people that signed the petition are the ones that actually vote at a much greater rate then those that didn't. If it falls short, it would be a HUGE upset.

There was a lawsuit by BR against Central challenging the incorporation so, yes, it was contentious.

Not THIS contentious though because Central isn’t 80,000 people plus a lot of key business areas for the BR area.

Dumb asses should have given Central their own school district too. That's all they initially wanted but they were told they had to create a city.

It’s a recurring cycle.

EBRPSS has been a shite show since Judge Parker was assigned to the deseg case and every attempt to escape the school system has been bitterly resisted with long term consequences as a result.
