Somehow I think the state Supreme Court will not only overrule Trudy but smack her down handily if she tries this.

what happens to neighborhoods just on the BR side of the new StG line - will they have an ballot opportunity down the road to leave BR and join StG?

If they are within the BR city limits, I think it's a little more difficult than if it's an area that remains unincorporated.

No question, but the election will be enjoined while the court proceedings make their way through the courts.

But I wish my neighborhood was included

Same. We are one street over from STG.

Unless you already live in an incorporated area, there are procedures for you to petition an incorporated area for annexation. The borders of an incorporated area are not fixed in stone.

I've never read of any way to leave an incorporated area without that incorporated area passing an ordinance to contract its boundaries. I think that once a piece of land is in, it's in unless the city wants it to be out.

It likely won't be a ballot issue. They would have to first de-annex from BR and annex into SG. It will probably follow the same process as annexing into BR but in reverse. Petition by enough of the residents in a given area and a vote of the Met-Co. Then they would request de-annexation, followed by a request to annex into SG to their City Council

You forgot about the unincorporated area between SG and Central. SG pulled a little trick from BR and included the bank of the Amite River up to the border of Central. As soon as incorporation is final, look for those residents in that gap to request annexation into SG. Contiguous, complete, and wrapped up in a bow.

Those minority areas that were excluded on the revised map were likely included on the first map. Some areas specifically said they didn't want to be included because the areas would be gentrified. So they were removed when the map was revised. And now they're pissed that they aren't included?

So you're racist if you include them, you're racist if you exclude them. That's an easy way to make people not give a frick about you because there's no pleasing you unless we sit here and let the city continue to rob us. If you don't want to be included, then fine you're out just like you wanted. We're moving forward, those areas only have themselves to blame.

Considering that most of the signatures of those in the apartment complexes were rejected on the first petition, your assertion is utter BS. Now, the revised lines of how BR annexed the casino while skirting around Gardere (who did not wish to be in St. George) are extremely racist.

Appreciate the information but I just wanted to get some precision of language to avoid confusion.

quote:

The city of BR pretty much stopped incorporating residential areas around the time of the city parish merger in 1980.

Replacing 'incorporating' with 'annexing' or 'municipal annexation'.

quote:

The idea at the time was “If you have a merged city-parish, you don’t need to keep incorporating areas into the city.”

Replace 'merged city-parish' with 'coterminous' or 'consolidated city-parish'. Although, East Baton Rouge Parish has other incorporated cities so I didn't think it qualified as consolidated like New Orleans and Orleans Parish is.
