I grew up in Shenandoah so I am familiar with the area: any city that includes the O'neal lane townhomes by St. Jean Vienney did not do this! lol

Does that mean Claitor played the “biggest, blackest dick” card on the senator from New Orleans?

That’s what happened to us. I would have been sent to Crestworth Middle, as that was the magnet school. My mom wasn’t having any of that, so we transferred to a private school.

My parents looked at the district where my big sister would attend and realized their four year old daughter would get bussed across town to a shitty school in the hood. They immediately started looking for alternatives.

I grew up in Central and most of the kids out there weren't bussed anywhere else. They carved out a portion of Scotlandville and made it Central school district though.

Below is a link which shows the "city proper" for everybody

What's up with that one un-incorporated spot between Tigerland and Burbank?

Did Shady's opt out?

Is Woodlawn the only public high school in the proposed area? Seems like they will need another one.

I lived in what is probably considered ground zero for St George, where the incorporation lines danced all the way around us.

Because it was a small neighborhood outside the city limits, we were basically a throw-in to match the numbers for various districts each time they declared the attendance zones.

STG. I bet those fricking politicians wish they would have just given them that School District now.

No doubt. This could have all been avoided.

Would the BR fire dept be racisit as it does not seem to be inside the city limits according to the city parish map?

If the map correct should be close to that ditch on Old Hammond Highway. According to the map it is outside the city limits.

That would have required these politicians to concede power and money to prevent an even bigger problem down the road.

Much easier to pander to your extremely stupid voting base and hope and pray that you maintain control of everything.

All attempts to stop StG via public rhetoric, shady petition practices, and blatantly back-handed legislation have all failed.
Now, they'll try to go to court to keep control of the tax dollars, which, of course, will also fail.
Then, they'll try their best to block the schools too, out of spite.

Such a shame to behold. And such a wonderful victory for those willing to fight the good fight on behalf of their fellow citizens. StG organizers and lawyers out there doing yeoman's work.

why does a senator from New Orleans care about a land dispute in Baton Rouge?

Peterson isn't usually the type to act stupid like this... especially with something that doesn't affect her people.

Peterson is normally pretty level-headed... yes she's liberal and I disagree with about 97 percent of her policy positions, but she's not the "play the race card and act ignorant" type.

I don't know if someone got to her, or what the deal is.

You want to see a real shite show, though? There are a small, but growing, number of people in Algiers that want to de-annex from the City of New Orleans and form their own city, because they are tied of the crappiness of city government.

They will win this... supposedly in order for the ISD to form, it needs to pass a vote of the state, the parish, and the ISD area.

It will pass statewide and in the ISD but I can see it failing in the parish.

Same. We have a number of race pimps around here, but she's not normally one of them.

Something is up.

St George, Zachary, and Central will vote yes. Baker and BR will vote no. It’s a question of turnout as to whether it succeeds.

I think it is a concerted Dem effort to try and prop up the city of BR, which is one of the big Dem strongholds in the state which, in turn, makes it an important part of any Dem run for Governor.

BR goes down the tubes and I don’t see a Dem Governor for a while barring another once in a lifetime race similar to JBE winning or Edwards vs Duke vs Roemer.

EBR school board added fuel to the fire recently.

1. More than half of the charter schools are failing.

2. EBRSS is talking about budget cuts and layoffs within the traditional schools. Saying they need to reduce cost.

3. But then just approved $$ for another out of state charter school to come and open shop.

WTF?

I live less than 1/2 of a mile from the StG boundary line and I hope the city passes.

Wake up BR...

There are some judges in the 19th who will absolutely shoot down St. George no matter the law/argument
