You legit can’t understand? A waist high lawn makes the entire street look bad. And attracts rats/snakes/vermin.

Your property, sure, but there are ordinances concerning upkeep of lawns and trashy looking cars up on blocks in most municipalities to keep neighborhoods from looking like trash.

In N.O., if the city sends someone out to cut vacant lots or other properties, they will put a lien against the person listed in the records as the owner of the property. If, after a certain time has passed and the lien is not paid, the property goes up for auction to the highest bidder.

Quit living like trailer trash, or at least if you want to, move out to the country and buy a few acres where nobody gives a shite how trashy you are.

Not me. I'm not the problem. It's for the trashy "I'll do whatever the frick I want" -type people that it's good to have. The people who think it's ok to go weeks/months on end without cutting the grass (like the OP is talking about). Or people who jerry rig the frick out of something on their house rather than fix it the right way. Or the baw who wants to park his boat in his front yard and put in a fish cleaning table right next to it in plain view from the street, and thinks that looks perfectly fine.

I'll gladly pay a small fee to prevent that kind of shite. And we have lots of those types in Louisiana.

My pops would just mow his neighbor's grass when he did ours?

I figured this was a common thing.

Offer to cut it for free. While doing that, make sure you don’t “hurt” yourself on her property because if you do you have to sue the heck out of her !!

Mow it for her. Random act of kindness.

If it were an elderly or handicapped person, I’d agree with you. But this is an able bodied person who’s just lazy so frick that. Call code enforcement and report it anonymously so it doesn’t cause any friction between OP’s parents and their neighbor

Yep. I want to paint my house. Wait, what? YOU have to approve the color before I can paint????

I want to build an arbor for my climbing rose bush in the front yard. What, submit my plans to YOU, so you and your committee can decide if it's appropriate.

What 7 figure gated neighborhoods on private golf courses don’t have HOA’s?

Um, for starters put on your big boy / big girl underwear and figure out an adult solution and don't "Dear Facebook" you problems (or perceived problems) on social media.

Granted I understand some gene pool floaters here love reading this stuff to make their own existence seem less futile, but really you can't handle this on your own?

waist high bro....no way.

Anyway. If you are that worried about it, and you have people with "like" issues with it, then collectively help the bitch out.

Kudos for owning a home next to a single income Subway worker. Yikes. Bet neighborhood is super-dee-duper looking.

The last time one of my neighbors let their yard get too high I cut a big semicircle in their yard. They still don’t speak to me but their yard looks nice now.

IIRC, the max height in NO is 16". If it's that high, it's beyond her ability to cut with a mower. Most lawn companies won't want to wear out their equipment and waste time on it either. She's gonna have to either weed eat it, or rent one of those walk-behind bushogs. The city will get someone to cut it, but it will take a long time to do so.

Quickest was is to go rent the equipment and get someone from Home Depot to do the work

How big is her damn yard?

It's October. Mow it for her once and then your parents can forget about her for 6 months.

How do you people function?

Just call code enforcement, they will come out and cut her grass and put a lien on her house for it if she doesn’t pay.

Since I moved from uptown NOLA to the suburbs I haven't had anyone kick in my front door and steal my Tv and VCR. I haven't had any one pull a gun on me during an armed robbery. I haven't walked into my back patio enclosure only to discover two burglars just getting my main back door of its hinges. I also don't have neighbors with waist high grass, music blasting out of their windows that are 15-20 feet from mine, cars parked almost on the sidewalk tearing up the grass between it and the street, and no sketchy people walking or driving down my street. I don't hear gunshots at night anymore either. So, enjoy your paradise and I'll enjoy my "Hell."

Where the hell did you live in uptown? I live uptown and I have never had that happen nor have I heard of that happening to any of my friends living in this part of town.

Well I’ll never have to worry about a neighbor with waist high grass or a junk car. If you’re not trashy, the HOA rules are very easy to abide.
