I give them a pass due to the Great Depression being absolutely horrible. I don't blame them for trying anything to ease the pain. That generation went through a lot of tough times. We have it easy today thanks to them.

Now the Boomers who voted for LBJs Great Society can go frick themselves

a lot of those boomers you guys keep blaming everything on weren't old enough to vote at that time, they were, however, old enough to accept an M-16, a pair of combat boots, and all expenses paid trip to SE Asia from their uncle

In a sobering reminder of how time passes by all of us - even the 16- and 17-year olds who hit the beaches that morning are in their 90s, now.

My dad is 92. He hit his first beach in the Pacific when he was 17. He said that he was terrified when they got on the first landing craft. One of the old vets tapped him and said, "Funny thing about that fear. You can turn it into courage in a moment. Once that happens, you won't be afraid again." Dad said he looked around and noticed how calm the older guys were, and his fear totally disappeared.

I can't even imagine what those men must have felt going into that. Just seeing this picture puts things in perspective.

1. LBJ was not elected. He assumed the office of POTUS in Nov. 63 following the death of president Kennedy.

2. LBJ became VP in January 1961 following the presidential election in November 1960. At that time the legal voting age was 21. Also at that time the oldest baby boomer would have only been about 14 years old.

Thus, there was not a single vote by any baby boomer for LBJ in any election.

My grandfather was a pilot over Normandy on DDay. Flew with the Royal Air Force (not sure how he was chosen to be put with them). Wish I knew how to post pics. Got some neat ones.

I wish you knew how to post pictures too. Try scanning them to get them
onto your computer as files and then go to a free image hosting site to upload them onto the internet. Once they are uploaded, each picture will have an adress (you can get the adress by right-clicking the image and copying the image adress) which you then enter by clicking the img tab on the right of where you type when you’re posting.

Reading those excerpts gave me chills.

Whether those men who died believed in God or not I like to think He gave them all a place in heaven because they all had to endure hell

Let's see if this works or if I truly suck at the internet

My grandfather is the one with his hand on the coffee cup. He was sick the day before -- inner ear issues so "lucky" for him that the mission was delayed.

I would take his comment to be more societal in nature, less about the individual.

Free admission to a Higgins boat today at the WWII Museum (might be free museum admission too - I just wanted to see one from the inside).

Doing your job in spite of the fear is the awesome thing.

D Day was an incredible achievement in courage, planning and execution. Most people at that time didn't think it was possible to execute an amphibious landing on that scale. That may still be the biggest achievement of the American military on every level.

I have so much respect for the men who put that together and executed.

Most of all, improvisation. Literally almost nothing went right, and they threw out all those meticulous plans and started from scratch on the fly. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. was the indispensable man on D Day. The highest ranking American ashore, and realizing the entire Utah Beach force had landed from.half a mile to two miles off course, he said, "we start the war from right here."
