I visited that area earlier this year. I can’t imagine what it was going through those guys minds while waiting for the doors to drop. Normandy Cemetery is impeccable and makes you proud to be an American.

I don't understand why we want our 19 and 20 year olds to act like they have to go to war. I'd rather them take snaps with their faces as puppy dogs then have to suit up and get killed in a war.

Being free and able to do whatever the hell we want is the point of going to war and defeating our enemies.

Military technology is so advanced these days that all we need is a soldier who can remotely drive a drone and frick an area up, they could be dressed up as Hello Kitty if they wanted, doesn't matter as long as the job gets done.

Freedom is kids taking puppy dog photos or a man being able to get on his bad arse motorcycle and drive across the country. Our ancestors fought for freedom and freedom is what we got, live it up.

Who's the pussy on here that said that generation needs to die off because they were nothing but racist war mongers? He said it in a thread a while back.

Probably the same thing that the Civil War generation thought of the WWII generation.

Damn, it's been 73 years since the end of WWII. It was 76 years between the end of the Civil War and the bombing of Peal Harbor.

Let's not turn this thread into another commentary about modern kids, please. Remember that generation, that's it.

It's sobering to look at that photo and realize there's a bunch of kids there who probably already know that they won't make it and never see their families again

So what happens when a modern war with EMP's or nuclear strikes takes place? Keep in mind, your drone won't work. Nor will your cell phone.

You have absolutely no idea how this generation of 18 and 19 years old would do in a world war.

I took care of an old fella years ago. He was discharged from the hospital and I wheeled him to his car. He had a military vet hat (can’t recall branch) and it was WW2. This was mid 1990s so the guy was still a spry 70ish year old.

We got to talking. He asked if I was military as I “looked like a corpsman” (his quote). I said no and joked how I crapped myself during the first Iraq war in 1991-2. Said I’d never have been able to endure what he did. He said “nah. You’d do fine. You’d be amazed what you can do when you have to. “

I think he’s right. It would take a WW2 type situation though. Nobody is buying another Vietnam or Korea. Or another invasion of a ME country that would require a draft.

How very disrespectful to the veterans of the Millenial generation who have fought and died in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and elsewhere. There are eighteen year old Americans in Afghanistan today who have volunteered to put their lives on the line in a war that began when they were in preschool.

Some of y'all on here bitch about young people worse than any nursing home resident I've ever heard.

Snapchat is one of the best ways to get women to send naked pics, don't knock until you try it. I'm no snapchat junkie by any means but I see the merit in the technology.

I will add, that I have a great respect for our men and women who have fought for our freedom.

My grandfather was a pilot over Normandy on DDay. Flew with the Royal Air Force (not sure how he was chosen to be put with them). Wish I knew how to post pics. Got some neat ones.

ETA: the poster Clark Griswold here actually took care of him via home health theapys. Still appreciated.

A friend of my Dad landed on Utah Beach. He told us once that there was a number of guys that claimed God didn’t exist and they didn’t believe in God. He said that as they were approaching the beach that all of them dudes were openly and loudly praying to God.
