I am so damn proud to be an American and to be living in the country that the bravest men in the world helped defend. I don’t think most Americans realize how hard they suffered and how much they sacrificed to keep us all free. We all better do our best every day to live up to what they left us. Work hard, help your fellow man, and don’t put up with ANYONE pushing around the USA. There is only room for one at the top. They put us there and we had better live up to the responsibility. It’s the least we can all do for them! May God bless them all!!

This is an excerpt from a letter than my grandfather wrote to my grandmother.

"I'll never forget the spectacle of D-Day. It was thrilling and did we have a grandstand seat. Seeing the firing at dawn was a rare and beautiful sight. The whole import behind it was thrilling. I felt so proud and so happy, just to look under my wing to right or left, and see the ghostly outlines of ships in the half light, blasting away at shore installations. To us who had waited so long, it was the beginning of our return home." June 13, 1944

They all made it home. My grandpa died in the 60s from a heart attack and one of the uncles died from throat cancer in the 70s. I never knew either of them. The one who gave me the coins and the story passed a couple years back. He had been blind for about 20 years. He said hopefully I'm giving you the right coins. Fun bit of info: he went blind because Tommy Casanova the all American lsu quarterback muffed up an eye surgery on him

It would be nice if we sometimes had hero worship threads for men who fought in Korea, Vietnam, or the desert. Not to take away from the WW2 vets but I have heard about them over and over.

I don't understand why we want our 19 and 20 year olds to act like they have to go to war. I'd rather them take snaps with their faces as puppy dogs then have to suit up and get killed in a war.

You just don’t get it. The point was, kids back then lied about their age to go defend their country. Nobody “wants” our 19 and 20 year olds to act like they want to go to war, but we do want them to rise to the challenge.
Today’s young men are spoiled, entitled pussies. No way they would answer the call like was done in 1941.

I’m not white trash, so no.

Maybe you should log off. Trying to fight people online is pretty pathetic.

I’m not trying to do anything little fella, you suggested an act be performed on me, I simply asked if you wanted to climb from behind your mighty keyboard and give it a shot.
You’re very white trash, or worse. Even white trash sometimes back up their little attempted put downs.
You didn’t attempt to discuss the differences between young men in 1941 and today, you simply attacked without stating why you disagreed. Typical pussy.

Like I’ve said, they’d be proud to see young people fighting fascists on college campuses. It’s almost the same thing.
