Covid did a number on Waffle House, or at least a lot of their locations

It’s just not the same

Waffle House is incredibly lean and inexpensive to operate

They thrive on efficiency. Their units follow certain measurements to use the same equipment. Easy plug and play and that shite matters with that many units

I get the same thing every time...meatloaf and mashed potatoes with carrots. Usually am half full of biscuits and cornbread before the plates arrive.

Just convinced myself into eating lunch there today. Thank god I don't live a democrat run hellhole.

I still love it.

But costs me like $16 for an all-star and a drink and tip.

I take it you’ve never had herbed goat cheese avocado toast with a kambucha enema before.

I was willing to try that until I saw the delivery method!

Is that serious?

Yep, every one around here have gone to shite. It isn't even recognizable anymore. Service is abysmal and prices have skyrocketed. Last time I went to one, the waitress had to take our order 3 times, then they start bringing food after about 45 minutes and the cook ends up stopping by and looking at the table and was like, that's not right. Re-took our order himself. There were 6 other people eating in the whole restaurant.

I do not feel sorry for places like that.

What they are saying is that the city is out of control and it has greatly affected our business. We can no longer afford to deal with the crime and political stance this city has taken so we are forced to close our doors

I was in Portland fall of 2021. It wasn’t any worse than every other major metro area that I’ve visited in recent years that I could tell. There were homeless people, the smell of weed everywhere, but also lots of cool bars and restaurants and friendly people. Airport was easy in and out, light rail was convenient.

I was only there for 3 days for a conference though. Hard to get a full feel for a place in that tight of a window. I wouldn’t clutch my pearls about going back.

LOL at them blaming the pandemic and not the culture.

It’s like any other chain. Some are good, some are bad. I’ve always liked their breakfast.

Lunch or dinner I get the hamburger steak.

Every city has cool bars and restaurants, and not all have the overwhelming homelessness, irresponsibility and petty crime.

People over look a lot of bullshite for trendiness.

They're not closing because of theft?
Certainly, the local thugs aren't interested in scented candles or nostalgic checker sets.

Are the wokesters protesting southern based companies?

It’s all about perspective. I was apprehensive about going based on what I’d read and heard, but my reality while there just didn’t fit the narrative I’d been fed. I enjoyed my visit, though I’ll admit I enjoyed more getting out of the city and seeing the beautiful landscape through the Columbia River gorge and going to Mt Hood.

I can't imagine there is a large contingent of Cracker Barrel's target demographic in Portland anyway.

Plus, CB sucks donkey dick compared to what it was 15 years ago. The past 3 or 4 times ive eaten there over the years the downturn in quality has been very noticeable. Say what you want, but Cracker Barrel used to be really good for the price point.

True. A friend took me to a waterside park in Seattle. Looked pristine, until she showed me the openings in the hedges, and behind them was people living in fairly disgusting ways, just feet from a pretty area.

Its there. Just behind the surface its rotting, destroying the insides. In Seattle, Portland, San Fran, LA. It may look shiny and fun, but don't dig beneath the surface.

Ok...this is how you ferret out the Yankee in the crowd. Nobody who has eaten at each establishment would ever put Bob Evans above any of the others. Bob Evans food tastes like sadness.

Do you know how much that costs to make yourself?

Ingredients alone for that are less than $3 per serving.
