If you are consuming - take your pick [weed, crack, booze, McDonalds] - everyday, it is an addiction

Depends on the individual and their mental strength. An addictive personality will get addicted to anything, more times than not mentally far more than physically.
Also depends on the addiction. Alcohol, for instance, has a physical dependency tied to it that can be disabling. Yet, those strong enough mentally can thwart the addiction. Some need help beyond what their mind can accomplish. Alcohol addiction can kill you if stopped cold turkey.
As for pot, as an everyday, all day smoker(and I work imagine that), there is no physical addiction. It's all mental. Routinely(every couple of months) I take what connoisseurs call a "tolerance break". A week, sometimes longer, of smoking no reefer in order to drop my tolerance. No anguish, no dependency or stressing out due to not smoking. Just a choice to smoke or not smoke. Addiction and choice aren't the same thing. The key, dont be weak mentally. That's the issue with most addicts. Their brains dependency not their body's.

Yeah, well that’s just like your opinion man.

I’m surprised I got through that whole explanation without you telling me I “haven’t found the strain yet”.

From the composition of this response I could tell you smoke weed.

But you can (and do) quit any time.

Caffeine too.

But the more nuanced response is these things aren't going to cause severe physical withdrawals like you get with booze and opioids.

If you do it daily because you like it, it isn't an addiction. If you do it everyday because you "need" it, it is.

I smoke almost every day, but when I travel I don't take it with me and not smoking has no effect on me (other than not getting high).
