I am a failed Nuke school student. I wanted out of the program but the only way out was to flunk so I tanked a physics test, got rolled back and failed the same test again. I was sent to the fleet on the LaSalle as a machinists mate, cross rated to disbursing. E3 and then capped to E4

Didn’t serve, but I am in Columbia now and my kid got their Soldier patch yesterday after doing the Forge in the hottest temps every recorded at Fort Jackson, We are soon leaving to attend our youngest kids graduation today before AIT school at Fort Sam.

Due to the heat, it was :more of a “hole in the sand” they slept in for 3 nights. Kid has been spoiled with creature comforts their whole life so this was a well needed dose of humility from Bravo company.

Army, 2015–2022.
Three deployments, two with the 4th Infantry Division.
During my second deployment, we were hit by a VBIED. After multiple surgeries, I ended up medically retiring shortly after I had re-enlisted.
I joined later than most—at 25—after I was already married and had our first child. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. My kids got to grow up experiencing places and cultures they never would have if we'd stayed in Louisiana, and my wife had never really traveled anywhere before the Army.
I know everyone's experience is different, but I've noticed that many of the people who hated military life never really took advantage of where they were stationed. They stayed in the barracks or on post instead of getting out and exploring.
Getting out was harder than I expected. You lose that sense of purpose and belonging overnight. The friends who became family are scattered across the country, and if you're lucky, you might see them once a year.
I don't miss every single thing of the Army, but I miss the people, the mission, the camaraderie, and being part of something bigger than myself.
