re: Midsize truck recommendations

I bought my son a newer Nissan Frontier for college a couple of years ago and it’s been great so far. It originally had a slight noise on the interstate coming from the windshield but they fixed it immediately with a new seal. Other than that there’s been no issues.
Still serving and thankful for the opportunity! :usa:
Did you get a Ram with the 3.0 Hurricane or 5.7 Hemi?

Allison is not back on GM 2500's or 3500's

I completely agree. Allison does not make the 10L1000 but allows GM to brand it. I never said it was a true Allison.

You’re incorrect in assuming both transmissions are the same. GM and Ford cooperated to build the light 10 speed transmissions found in half ton trucks but they did not come together to build heavy duty transmissions.

The 10R140 is actually doing really well since 2023. Be careful watching Dave too much on Youtube. Yes there’s issues to address with all trucks but Dave makes money off people buying his prevention kits and clicks from social media. Criticism drives clicks. You don’t see videos from the thousands of happy owners making 200-300k miles on their trucks.

The Ford Super Duty is likely the best HD diesel on the market. Ford has quietly fixed the CP4 issues with Bosch and worked out the issues on early 6.7s such as the turbo. The Powerstroke likely has the best emissions on the market especially after adding the 9th injector in 2023.

Downshift is right to stay away from Ram until they work out the Cummins. Hydraulic lifters are a huge problem that they keep having issues with along with electrical gremlins.

GM’s Duramax is good but their transmission still needs improvements and I’m not a fan of independent front suspension.

The 6R140 is not bullet proof but it’s a really good transmission. Nothing is entirely bullet proof now days.

The 10R140 and 10L1000 are not the same transmission. Parts are not compatible between the two. Multiple sources have torn them down to show the difference. The Ford is better built. In 2023, Ford improved the 10R140 which has shown better reliability for the past 3 years.

Lastly, Allison pulled their name because they wanted more money. Hence why Allison is back on all Duramax GMs. GM did not redesign the 10L1000.

It typically takes 30 years to get 2 stars. They can move fast afterwards due to political appointments but the average multi-star general retires with 34-35 years of service.
GEN George is a fantastic leader and well liked across the Army. He’s a warfighter and earned his rank through multiple combat deployments to get where he is. He was focused on transforming the Army in preparation for what we’re seeing in Ukraine much faster than the last chain of command.

GEN George is also well liked by the Army Secretary and personal relationships were likely a key contributor to his firing.

Ford strengthened the 10R80 ten speed transmission in 2023 which has improved the reliability so far.

The biggest issues was the CDF Drum bushing would slip out of place on older versions but the upgrade added a lip to prevent slippage.

They also improved the CDF drum by switching from bare aluminum to anodized aluminum to prevent ridge wear.

I don’t think GM has upgraded their 10L80 to match Ford as of yet.

Ford and GM run the exact same transmission.

This is true for 1/2 ton trucks but not 3/4 or 1 ton trucks. The 10R140 and 10L1000 are two separate transmissions with no overlapping parts. Both follow the same concept but nothing else.
I’d go Ford with 6.7 PSD. Ford has the best emissions control which is the Achilles heel for modern diesels. Their 10 speed is more robust than GM’s. I’ve now owned 2 6.7s which have been flawless.

My next choice would be Ram. The ZF transmission will likely be very successful. Like Ford, they use a solid front axle, however, I’m not sold on their coil suspension for their 2500’s rear end.

Last would be GM. I’m not a fan of their under built 10 speed and IFS front end. Glad to see that Allison has pulled out of that debacle to keep their reputation clean.

I have the non-tactical and like it lot. It’s heavy but a good defense pistol and super accurate when shooting in SA.
I also recommend a Ford Expedition. I’ve owned three and keep coming back.

I’ll muddy the water even more as a lefty. I love both 3rd gen and 4th gen glocks. I’ve learned to operate both and would likely struggle if I switched the ergonomics.

I have yet to buy a 5th gen but, there’s a ton of rumors about the upcoming 6th gen that I’m excited to see.
Heck no! GM has always disappointed me. Most of the people I know have walked away from GM due to their unreliability.
I think it’s actually a CP8 which a modified CP4 that contains debris if it fails.

From DieselArmy: Providing fuel pressure is a new Bosch CP8 high-pressure injection pump. This new injection pump is said to be an improvement over the failure-prone Bosch CP4, although we’re not exactly sure how it’s different. Some suspect the CP8 will feature an improved internal pump and cam lobe profile, and the name change is purely to escape the bad publicity of the CP4 and its variants.

Nissan Frontier is a fantastic truck. It’s the only old school mid size left on the market with a NA V-6. The 9 speed auto is pretty decent and designed by Mercedes.

I remember Sinclair’s Army Surplus in Baton Rouge like it was yesterday. RIP Robert Sinclair. He was a great man and true patriot. :wah:
It’s located in Pooler, GA, just outside of Savannah. It’s worth the visit if you’re in the area.
I’ve been deployed there and heading back soon. Everything you said is generally correct plus it’s a cheap cost of living. Poland stayed with their national currency when they joined the EU so the dollar goes far against the zloty.

$8k is for replacing all the gaskets and seals. Why not just fix the oil pan gasket?

It’s not too difficult of a job and you could do it yourself for way less money. Just watch a few YouTube videos and you’re off to the races.
