Not sure if you are serious, but expand that to those who have lost limbs, I saw a few at Ft Leonard Wood at at the pool!!

I started this thread because my four nephews thought it was beneath them and my niece wouldn't make it.
This will be the first generation in my family not to serve.
Israel has it right but for different reasons. Military service should be mandatory.

Same happened to me, only it was in 1970 when I joined while still in high school and left for Orlando 1 week after graduation.
Figured with me not wanting to go to college I'd be draft board fodder once I hit 18 and I didn't particularly like the idea of being a grunt in the jungles of Nam.
Made it through 10 weeks of boot camp and had a bad shoulder separation that saw me having to hit sick bay. A few x-rays later and a Dr's. consultation saw me being put in a medical holding company to be discharged. It was a long time issue for me having suffered multiple separations over the years and the recruiter wanted to fill quotas
Navy refused to operate since it was not service connected and Uncle Sam didn't want the responsibility.
