We also don’t have near the population or crowdedness they do. Probably also more hygienic than they are.

We don't run freakish food markets with a Pandora's Box of critter species pinned up for human consumption, creating the risk for cross-species infection.

This is like SARS, caused because those jokers were eating civet cats, though those aren't a whole lot different than raccoons and plenty of backwoods types around here eat those.

I’ve never seen a bunch of live ones penned up in a market with thousands of people.

That is because you could put a raccoon in a cell at ADX Florence Supermax and he would be gone in the morning.

Not from a "market."

Yeah, I was only noting that the civet cat didn't look that much different than a raccoon. The number and quantity of different species pinned up in crowded human population center is the problem.

So it's gone from 1 to 3 popup hospitals in 2 days.

Where's slackster to tell us how it's being overblown here on TD?

Big ol nothingburger, amiright?

3k total beds, but sure, let's act like it's the apocalypse.

It's fricking hysterical how many of you want this to be bad and refuse to believe it isn't.

we have access to significantly better medical care than they do.

Everyone keeps saying this like healthcare is an infinite resource. What happens if the hospital has 20 respirators and you're the 21st person who needs one to survive? It could well be less serious of an illness here due to our healthcare system if you have access to it. But if that healthcare system gets overwhelmed, it just can't help you no matter how good it is.

Unless you are elderly or very young, you really don’t have much to worry about here. Our immune systems are stronger than the average chinaman’s and we have access to significantly better medical care than they do.

Okay, I'm tired of hearing this.

The 1918 flu did not kill the elderly and compromised health. It killed the young and healthy.

We dont know what this thing will do to our immune systems as a culture on a large scale.

And what happens with that great medical care when the providers get sick and supplies stop coming?

Fact is, we dont know what this virus truly is. But it may be time we find out.

Just looked at the GIS data, this thing is spreading like wildfire (it's important to remember these are only the confirmed/suspected cases they know about, it does not take into account people the infected may have been in contact with and the current infection rate is ~1:2.6).

While certainly worth attention, I'm not worried until I start seeing mortality rates hitting full percentage points (to give a sense of measure, the mortality rate for the flu in the US is approximately .0143%).

I made one observation about a handful of posters. Sorry to have ruffled any feathers.
