Very sad situation where hindsight is 20/20 and could have been handled differently.
That being said, this is a selectively edited and commentated video by a YouTube poster named "the civil rights lawyer" whose income is based in part on making police officers look bad and suing the government for his own financial benefit.
Ironically, people like him are part of the reason policies are in place not to give rides. If they were to get in a wreck or go over a bump and hit her head, he'd probably be beating down her door to sue.
Also, the average citizen doesn't realize how much BS cops hear on a daily basis across America. You're seeing one 15-minute interaction of the tens of thousands of similar interactions across America every day. This one happened to end poorly.

Isnt there a law for public drunkenness? Someone must have already had a situation with her and called for the cops. She should have been arrested and removed from this situation. Those cops are dumb as hell

The did offer to call her an ambulance to ride to the hospital. Maybe she should've taken that

The 2 miles to the gas station would have been much quicker than the amount of time they spent talking about it

Those cops need to be fired.

The reason this is popping back up, is because the state is filing a criminal complaint and the county is asking for a review of their police licenses. Hearing scheduled for February.
Not that it necessarily matters, but the woman, Anders, was actually the suspect of a domestic violence call earlier that night, not the victim, according to a complaint filed in the county. Obviously, that doesn’t mean much, as these officers had no way of knowing that since it wasn’t filed yet. But their arguments are a little wrong.
She was visibly drunk, which they are arguing she wasn’t, so they couldn’t arrest her.
They could have still called an ambulance, even if she refused.
They could have taken her to a hospital themselves.
Lot gone wrong here. I think these cops are Pieces of shite, but I don’t think there will end up being a significant punishment if anything at all. Maybe a written reprimand and some “retraining” BS.
Horrible situation that too many people will have to live with the rest of their lives. Her whole family, the truck driver, and yes, even the two officers.

Finally. Someone with half a brain ITT. Thank you sir.

In a time where cops are being thrown in jail for doing their job you expect them to go above and beyond?
dafuq outta here.
I wonder how long he has been a LEO? Cause you know all the cops that left the job rather than be thrown under the bus by political motivated hacks running the departments around the country have been replaced with thugs and degenerates that would have been rejected about 10 years ago but now they need to fill out rosters because of attrition.

Admittedly, Like 5 seconds of it. Once I saw the format and the 25min length, I dipped out.

Clearly she was drunk. We have NOPD constantly dropping off drunks in the emergency room to sober up.

To the first half - she was begging for help and refused. The only way a civil rights lawyer gets involved in any of your made up scenarios is if she’s asking them to leave and they force her into a hold…. And given her state I think you’d be hard pressed to find one to take that case
They spent 20 minutes debating giving her a literal 2 minute drive that didn’t seem to be against policy
Spread over tens of thousands of incidents daily those saved minutes just doing the right thing instead of hassling for ID incessantly in many of the interactions could really help with both the man power shortage and perception of police, eh?

It's not one interaction. There are hundreds of thousands of interactions online that routinely show these people are not our best.
I just watched two cops beat the shite out of a death man with cerebral palsy. Then they lied and falsified police reports and had him arrested and jailed for about 3 weeks before the body cams were released and showed the truth.

That’s the best way to race to a post that’s counter to the 90% agreement on the other side of the issue

Too many rules , too many rigid protocols, etc are a nice excuse people use in modern society to turn their back on others. It’s good to leave a little room for humans to be humans.
The rules didn't stop them from giving her a ride. They absolutely could have given her a ride, but did not want to based on their own words

Thank lawyers for this shite.

It’s not a cops job to babysit drunk people who aren’t breaking the law. You give her a ride, then someone else, then someone else, and then you might as well paint their cop car yellow and call it a taxi cab. That’s not what we pay cops to do.
It’s a situation that ended tragically, but I don’t care that they didn’t help here. It’s not their job to go assist in domestic situations where a drunk idiot walks out the trailer park acting like they are running away.
As someone else said, most of you have no idea how much routine bullshite cops see and put up with on a daily basis.

She was beat up and the officers noted that in the video…she explained how he took her phone and other items. She can’t move the shoulder anymore. She has head wounds that the OFFICER points out so I think a concussion could be in the cards pretty easily.
They left an “intoxicated” VICTIM in the road, not a drunk person. She claims no alcohol and says she got out of the hospital. Tells a pretty coherent story for what she’s trying to flee. I don’t see them do anything to confirm her intoxication.
I don’t know whether they’re legally responsible or not. They’re crappy people for sure though to not bring her 2 miles to the gas station.
Also, when the people who are supposed to care, tell you to go F off, and you’re sitting at the edge of a cliff already mentally…maybe you sit in the middle of a road and check out. Hopeless.

I would consider myself conservative. Cops are pieces of shite. I will never donate another dime to one of their causes.
