I go to Asheville 8-10 times a year for work. 10 years ago it was something I really looked forward to each trip. Now I'd rather not go. It's still beautiful and plenty of shite to do, but the people are fricking terrible. Covid melted what little brains they had
We went there in Jan. We were sitting in a restaurant downtown watching some 90 lb hipster dork remove his mask only to take bites of food or a sip of water. It was interesting to watch the covid fanatics do their thing.

I'll meet you at the Sonic on Airport Rd and we'll settle this like men.
If I had a family, Arden would be the only part of "Asheville proper" where I'd want to live.

Does Asheville even have a Bowie Outfitters
Posted on 6/27/22 at 8:50 am to GreatLakesTiger24
I said they start at 250 a night. The shittiest hotel is around that.
The hotel we would have wanted to stay in would have ran us over $1000 for 2 nights. Im no OT baller, I can't justify that.

Just make sure you take your valuables out of the car if you ever want to see them again.

They're literally in the City of Asheville.
Now you're just forcing me to white knight for Arden

Asheville is great for beer, but the food is so-so. The fun stuff is outside of the city itself. Move to an area outside of Asheville.

I've been to Asheville a couple times. I'm a beer nerd, and so it's appealing to me. However...the first time we went was about 5-6 years ago. Yes it was hipster AF, but the beer scene was incredible, and the blue ridge parkway is beautiful.
We went again, last year. A lot more homeless up there now. We woke up early to go hiking, and drove down a street a few blocks from the hotel. Apparently, that's where the homeless shelter is. Several dozens of homeless all over the place. It has kind of spilled over to the rest of downtown too. And with their liberal arse city council, they approved reparations. The funny part about that, is there are like 5 black people in all of Asheville, so the guilty white libs are making some black family rich.
The beer scene is still good, but the liberal white neckbeards are more noticeably in your face. Whole lot of "inclusion/diversity/insert virtue signal catchword" more visible in the breweries. It was refreshing going to the Biltmore and antler village to get away from some of the liberal shite.
ETA: Oh, and yeah we went last year during the last week of the masking. I didn't wear one in the hotel and abject fear from some of these people was hilarious. The kid parking cars, however, was pretty level headed. I asked about masks and he said, "yeah i don't care about that shite. It's all political anyway". So there was hope.

There are a few places in Asheville that are outstanding for food. Buriel's forestry camp was one of the best meals we ever had. However...we ate there our last day of the trip, and had to drive back home that morning. We both got food poisoning. Needless to say, the 10-11 hour drive back to BR wasnt' very enjoyable and many stops were made. My wife and I later discussed it when we got home. Knowing we got food poisoning from that place, would we eat there again? We both said yes. The food was worth it, but...we'd wouldn't eat there the night before we have to drive home.
The Admiral in Asheville is great too.

Jesus, some people are just fricked up. I have never judged whether or not I would return to a city based on my perception of the politics of some of its citizens.
Why do so many people obsess over politics?
My mother lived in Asheville for 25 years from 1990 to about 2015. I used to go all the time. It's great around Christmastime, and it makes a good base for exploring the surrounding countryside. The politics of the citizens never even occurred to me.

I see you've not visited downtown recently.

The politics don't concern me, until it affects me. If you're liberal, fine. I disagree with you, but if i'm visiting a town, it's likely it will never come up.
The homeless problem they are having there, however, is a result of their liberal policies, and is starting to turn that town into a pretty disgusting place. Going there during mask season also doesn't help.
