My mother lived in Asheville for 25 years from 1990 to about 2015. I used to go all the time. It's great around Christmastime, and it makes a good base for exploring the surrounding countryside. The politics of the citizens never even occurred to me
There was a time when San Fran was nice, too. I enjoyed Asheville a lot during the time periods you described. The noticeable difference for me started happening about five or six years ago. Perhaps you should visit again before castigating others about something you don’t have personal knowledge about. Since Covid liberalism in Asheville has become noticeable not because I want to recognize it, but because they force it down your throat. Lake Toxaway is still awesome.

I see you've not visited downtown recently.
It's been a few years. But over the course of 25 years, yes I went downtown frequently, and yes, I accidentally went into one of the lesbian bars on one occasion. The way I knew it was a lesbian bar was there were only women in there, and they were all staring at me when I went in. No big deal, I'm not going to let a bunch of lesbians run me off when I want a cold beer. I just sat at the bar, ordered a beer, and as I was drinking it, stuck up some conversation with the couple next to me. Once they realized I was from New Orleans, and just happened to wander in there by accident, everyone was awesome. I ended up staying for a few more beers.
I mean, we're all Americans, we have a lot in common. We don't have to focus on where we disagree. I like drinking beer, they like drinking beer. I like eating pussy, they like eating pussy, it's all good.

Grow a spine, drama queen. I don't let other people force shite down my throat.

These degenerates hang out in West Asheville just looking for ANYTHING to protest against, and I mean it doesn’t take much. They’ll protest anything and everything.
What they should be protesting is the homeless vagrants living in tent city garbage scattered around the place. What they really need to do is move back to the northeast from where they came from and bring all their failed BS back with them, and quit corrupting the south with their filth.

Got damn, 200 people out of 95,000 (that's 0.2%) have got y'all really bent out of shape.

This is not meant in any inappropriate way but her first name doesn't happen to be Joy? Just curious, I know someone by that name who lived there during that same time frame

My wife played for an opera company in Asheville in 2018. I went and visited her for a week and we loved the city. It was absolutely beautiful. Had dreams of retiring there one day.
Then we went back in 2020, after the BLM protests. The downtown area had their statues covered, there was spray paint graffiti everywhere, and the amount of homeless people camping in Pritchard Park was unreal. Nothing like the city we remembered.
Doubt we'll ever go back.

Nope.
She lived on Sunset Terrace, right next to the Grove Park Inn, for years until she moved to The Timbers for a while before moving back home to LA.
Come to think of it, they started out living in Franklin.

If only it were only just 200 people soiling up Asheville. That would be easily avoidable, but it’s a lot more than that in West Asheville, but the good news is they travel in clusters in known hangouts as they bemoan their existences, especially the trust fund kids playing their role as the down and out looking to pay penance I suppose for their truly privileged upbringing. It’s pathetic. They have no direction and no ambition. In short, they’re bored because they have no life, and that’s their decision.

Got it. The woman I'm talking about lives near Caesars Head now

...so they're basically the same thing as the poliboard, just the other side of the coin? Makes sense.

My experiences were not bad at all with Covid stuff.
First visit, I arrived the day the mask mandate was lifted and everyone was maskless and over it. Second visit, they had just voted not to end the mask mandate and instead extend it, which everyone ignored. I went into every place maskless despite the mandate being in place, and nobody said a word.

Sounds like artists more than trust fund babies.
I never saw much of what you describe around the Grove Park area. Maybe if you can't tolerate liberals, don't hang out with artists. I mean, it's like deciding to hang out in North Baton Rouge and complaining about all the hood rats.

I lived in Asheville for almost 20 years. It's a great city surrounded by beautiful country, but the politics are enough to drive you crazy. I was happy to get back to Texas a few years ago.

Mr. internet tough guy. You didn’t fly during Covid or go to any city. I don’t let them force it, I avoid Asheville now, for the reasons expressed. You keep defending something you don’t even know about, Mr. enlightened one, because it was nice when your grandmother lived there when you were a child.
People like you are the problem. You let this crap takeover and pretend nothing is wrong until it is too late. Rep living in fantasy land and check back in 20 years to see Seattle of the south.

You can use, "ITG" for short.

That can only be good for all involved.

I'm not defending anything, I'm making fun of a bunch of spineless pussies.

Please, pick one. I'd prefer you stick with Mr. ITG.

My grandmother lived in Lafayette when I was a child, as well as when I was an adult. I'm sorry you're so young you think that 7 years is some kind of eternity. You'll grow out of it - if you live long enough.

No, I'm pretty sure it's intolerant little bitches like yourself that are problematic. If people weren't so fricking petty to let all the little shite get to them, it would be a better place. Trying being big for once.

Okay, you busted me, it's my fault. I let them take over.
WTAF?

I can get along fine with people who lean left on issues. I quite often do, and don’t expect to have like minded people surrounding me. I enjoy healthy and spirited banter back and forth that doesn’t get to personal. I have a problem with dirty people who aspire to nothing but want you to join in their self deprecating guilt about everything under the sun, and take things way over the top. The kind that can’t get along with conservative minded people without throwing a hissy fit that they don’t tow their party line. They take everything to the gutter.
