I bet the mayor was thrilled that those people were enriching the area at first.

Tell me you are a fan urban without telling me you are urban.

Which is fine by the way. Just say it ain't your cup'o tea.

No it’s not. This is a beautiful mountain town. Asheville can’t come close to this.
This is Estes Park.

Asheville is liberal stronghold. All city council members are dems and about 60% voted for high inflation over mean tweets in 2020. It’s what many conservatives fear with liberals moving in and brining their politics with them. Areas surrounding Asheville, which is the primary reason to tour the area from what I experienced, are still strongly red, so that dynamic will be fun to see developing in the next twenty years.

Not really. The area around Asheville is nice. Asheville itself, and more importantly the people that live there, are not.

<-- Lives 2.5 hours from Asheville and is in the area frequently.

I love Asheville because it's a pocket of weirdness in the middle of the south.

Yeah, right. “Beautiful mountain town.” I think those are actually large hills.

that looks like it could be a town in northern Michigan or Minnesota

The surrounding areas are nice. But I do not get the hype of Asheville. They are trying way too hard to be like California

I feel the same way about Lousiana. They are trying to be like Havana/Cuba but are more like Mogadishu and sub Sahara Africa.

About two years ago we visited there to see if we wanted to move there since we had been hearing how great Asheville is for over 20 years.

I have never in my life been to a more overhyped vacation destination in my life.

You made the right call.

It's a hippie/northern liberal's wet dream, which is to say a shithole in the making.

Lol you call that a mountain town

This is Nepal. Coloradans don't be scared at the lack of quakies, the whole town is alpine. This is called a real mountain. I tell you something else about Nepal, it doesn't border fricking Kansas. Enjoy your little hills and wheat fields.

I have to just shake my head and laugh at people who think the American Rockies of Colorado are some obscure beautiful little place.

I should have

You know, we've been up here 5 years and have yet to go up that way. We thought about going up there for the 4th but hotel prices alone start at $250 a night, most a bit more expensive.

Stanley is also a gorgeous mountain town up this way. No Gimmelwald or Aspen, but a nice sight. We've been up there once a few years ago.

We don’t go to Asheville much, but it serves its purpose. There are some good restaurants and breweries, but I dont go to Asheville for mountains or anything like that.

Towns... these days it's all about tent camping. And save the low elevation Appalachians or Rockies. Get your asses to Everest base camp. One beer will knock you on your arse.
