I've never railed a line of whiskey off a stripper's arse with a movie star though

Cocaine should be legal, that being said, it is worse for you than alcohol.

That makes sense. I honestly hadn’t really thought about the possibility (maybe likelihood) that it being legal would change how people use it and that could make it safer, especially if there is some sort of oversight over production and distribution.

And yeah I hear you. I know you’re not advocating using cocaine. But it’s interesting to think about since criminalization has obviously caused a ton of problems we don’t have solutions for.

I actually enjoy thought experiments like this, as there are so many variables. If I had to throw a dart, I think if cocaine were legalized tomorrow, within a decade or so, we'd be roughly where we are now with marijuana: if someone comes to your house, is close to you, and you know they partake, you might offer them a premium smoking experience. If they only meet some but not all of those criteria, you might offer them a seltzer you have in the fridge with a low to moderate THC content. Etc.

Put another way, we might come full circle and put the coke back in Coke, so to speak

Spain is actually the world's largest producer of olive oil, by a wide margin.

I'd rather legalize MDMA.

They used to put it in coke. I assume the reason it is illegal (at least in the US?) is because there wasn't one company that could patent it or even if they could, it was easily produced and would be cheaper to by illegally.

I am not a doctor so I really don't know, but I would imagine there are meds doctors prescribe to people all the time that is worse for you than cocaine. Xanax? I am sure there are anti-depressants that is more harmful to someone, if not used correctly (I guess that's any drug), than cocaine is.

And alcohol really is hard on the body. And for people who are alcoholics (which isn't of any fault of their own), whiskey (along with anything with alcohol) can ruin your life. You put other people at risk, especially when driving, it destroys families. Alcohol is just much more socially accepted because its legal. Something being legal or illegal doesn't mean its better or worse for you morally.

A lot less ingredients (hopefully ? )

The step they soak the leaves in gasoline. So it is probably healthier than red bull.

I’ll be honest. I don’t see why coke should be illegal. Clean, lab made coke wouldn’t be any worse than alcohol. The problem is that it is illegal it’s being made with god know what and being cut with god knows what.

Not to mention you could hit the cartel in their wallets where they’ll really feel it

Not completely out of bounds.

Powder cocaine is ultra concentrated. Coca tea is relatively harmless.

First time I drank whiskey I thought it was disgusting and the next day I regretted my poor decision

First time I did cocaine I was angry at myself for waiting so long to try it. I thought it was one of the greatest feelings in the world and knew if I let myself, I’d give my life to it.

They are not the same

And that's a bigger problem today than it has ever been. By time it gets to street level, you have no idea what all was put in it.

People are going to do coke. As long as its available, whether its legal or illegal people are going to do it. So if people will still do it, who benefits from it being illegal?

You want to slow down the cartels? Make it legal and sell it at pharmacies. Reduce the demand on the streets. This is why I think there are people in power who gain from the cartels running as they are. I find it really hard to believe they can't be stopped. How do they have so much power? They have a lot of money. How do they have a lot of money? Producing and selling drugs. If all of a sudden they are selling a lot less product, they are making less money and over time (it would take years) they will not have the money to do things they were able to do in order to stay in power.

There are a lot of people who die due to cartels. Whether its from the drugs they supply or other ways, you can say they are a risk to many Americans. You telling me the US military couldn't wipe them out? We take over whole countries (Iraq), assist other countries at war... I don't think taking out cartels would be more difficult.

The mob was incredibly powerful in the US during prohibition. Once prohibition ended, the mob all but became irrelevant.

I'll never understand why people don't see the corollary with the cartels.

If it became legal world wide , columbia would become a nobody in the growth of the cocoa plant. Other countries put a stop to cocaine growth. Columbia doesn't stop it is the only reason they make the claim of being number 1. More like number 1 in the production of an illegal drug world wide.
