Are you referring to the Italian mob? I am not sure if you are saying they were incredibly powerful during prohibition, but then after, while they were still a force, they were not as powerful as they were during prohibition.
But the Italian mob is an example of if the government really wants to do something, they will. By the late 90s the Italian mob had pretty much been eliminated. The ones who were still around "went legal", but the US government might be the biggest gang of them all.

He is mostly correct on all points. Pure coke in moderation is no worse than bourbon in moderation.
A coke habit would destroy your nose, sinuses, heart and lungs over time just like drinking whiskey daily would destroy your gut, liver, kidneys and heart.
The issue is the deadly stuff it’s been cut with. And he is right, legalization would regulate that danger away and ruin the cartels
