Did anyone here have a class w/Barbara Barnes Sims?

Retired LSU professor recounts her days at historic Memphis record company
quote:

Sun Records left the music world all shook up. During the mid to late 1950s, the Memphis record label released the early recordings of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and Charlie Rich.

Local author Barbara Barnes Sims was there.

Before Sims taught English at LSU for 36 years, she worked at Sun in promotion and publicity from 1957 to 1960.
I had no fricking clue about her when I was at LSU. If I'd known I'd've buried her in questions

My son (no pics) is dealing with a nightmare English professor right now. She's terrible, irrational, and unreasonable.

Dr. Soak for micro-bio in the 90’s (Soakalofski sp. ). Led a go to hell Ole Miss cheer every fall semester during game week. Cool old fart.

If I recall it was my 3rd semester before my first class there and I had a lot of classes in CEBA and in Tureaud, but by my 3rd semester I passed by it all the time so it wasn't that bad. I used to hate classes in the buildings in the quad.

Can’t remember his last name but Charles something…

He taught Econ and had like 26 versions of the test. Took the final in the Cox building and he stood up on a table, jumped up and down, yelling at people to be quiet. While wearing high top chuck Taylor’s.

He was a hoot

Is she an older short woman with blonde hair? Well, she was older then so I doubt she is still teaching. But this pretty much describes the lady I was referring to.

A large majority are professors because they’re incapable of operating outside of the academia bubble. Once you understand that, the prevalence of shitty professors makes sense.

Asian Art, LSU 2006. It was a Monday night class.

Professor was this white woman in her late 40s or early 50s.

Every class was the exact same thing. She would talk about how China was the greatest country in the world. She made the claim that Egyptians stole the design of the pyramids from China. That China had invented the circle (seriously, she really did claim that, China invented circles).

After every exam the following class would be students arguing with her over grades. She would give the usual "the textbook isn't right" and even tried to claim that we students misinterpreted what she had said during a class, so that is why we were wrong.

I ended with a C in the class and I felt like one of the lucky ones.

I had a lot of interesting professors in Massachusetts. Stereotypical left wing nuts. I just bs my way through every class. I failed Anthropology though because I couldn't keep my mouth shut for long enough and shouted at the professor's friend (a Native American) that if they had better border patrol that they would still own America.

I had a math professor at LSU named Britt for the second calculus. He announced on the first day of class that we would have a test on Friday of that week and everyone thought that was great because how much could he possibly teach in a week? The class before the test, someone asked what would be on the test and he said the material you learned this week AND everything from the first calculus course. He wasn’t joking and the test was basically the final exam from first calculus and then some.

He returned the graded tests and said to rework the missed problems on loose leaf paper for the next class so we did. Well, he came to class ranting because we were supposed to do one problem per page of loose leaf and he was crystal clear about that but no one listened to him so do it over.

Then he said he would give extra credit if you knew the score from the Milsaps football game on Mondays. Screw it. I dropped and got in a section with a great teacher who also taught me DiffEq.

Roussel. Hated him at first but eventually warmed up to his style. Took three of his classes - micro, macro, and money & banking

My very first day of LSU I was talking to a girl that I thought was pretty cute in our class in Lockett Hall. We walked out together and I was thinking this is awesome. Next, I tripped on my own shoe strings and went down the 8-10 steps and got up bleeding like a pig.

I had this African guy that barely spoke English, and would literally start speaking another language until someone reminded him.

He may have been brilliant, but he was a horrible teacher, and arrogant. So many people dropped his class, they opened a new section.

I won't say his name, but I remember it as clearly as the first day I heard it.

Dude was off his rocker. I had him as well. He always wore them short arse tennis shorts and a polo shirt like he was going play tennis right after class

It’s sad that I know exactly whom you are speaking of. You copied what he put on the board and typed it in the computer, no knowledge actually required.

There was one - when I was getting my Masters - I needed a thesis. So I went to the prof in charge of info technology and pitched my idea. "Business and the Internet". This was back in 1995. He told me that the internet was pointless and that it would never mean anything to business.

I found a different prof and went ahead with the thesis - and made a killing in the stock market on tech stocks in the process. frick him.

Moorthy has to be high on the OT hate list.

Lin for circuits at LSU was an arrogant prick who you couldn’t understand because of a heavy Chinese accent.
