I respect your opinion.

But, federal spending on sweetheart contracts for private corporations to line the pockets of the wealthiest is, in my opinion, a better starting point than where federal spending is actually creating middle class jobs for people who spend that money in their local communities and promotes a more educated populace.

If the worst example of waste in college tuition spending is educating people in stuff that I think may be kind of useless while also teaching them critical reasoning skills etc in the process (which usually helps them and their employers when don't find a job in their major), I personally find that at the bottom of the list of this county's most pressing problems.

Find examples of those loans resulting in payouts to billionaire investors or downright graft like the for-profit college scams then you have something that gets my attention as a waste of my tax dollars.

I'm not sure I even knew that some of those majors existed, like the nutrition science major and the family and consumer science major.

Our secretary will have done six years of college when it's all said and done all to be an elementary school teacher making what she makes right now with us.

but some literally just read off of what the district gives them and add nothing to it.

Districts are having to package education in ways to deal with mass turnover. It’s sad.

Thanks to BLM, Law Enforcement (Criminal Justice) is no longer on that list.

Those ignorant bastards did us a huge service by drastically increasing our pay to get people to stay in those jobs.

I've told my kids if you choose to go to college and not sure what to do just get a general studies degree and network. Make friends and meet anyone and everyone you can. Knowing someone who knows someone can get you a lot farther in life than and overpriced piece of paper saying you're graduated

The issue isn't "they didn't know what they were getting into" it's that many districts (especially in Louisiana) refuse to give raises so teachers become stagnant. Several start at 40k and they have been at 40k for 10+ years so the only "raise" teachers received is the 250-500 yearly bump.

I remember being told in college that English majors all end up making more than you think for some reason and it’s true

I’m in the boat of I don’t think teachers pay and schedules along with retirement and healthcare is a bad gig. It’s not amazing certainly. I also wouldn’t mind if the states ran a program to repay teachers college costs for an in state university to subsidize with something like 10 years of service.

I’ve known quite a few two school district households and I’m sure like most people they’d prefer more money, but they aren’t slumming it.

Teacher is also a fantastic job for a mom with kids to have some sort of career, raise a family, and be a second income. Sure ideally she wouldn’t work and stay home blah blah.

No, I told them no degrees with the word "studies" in the name.
I have one so I am allowed to say it.

Well honed language skills get you ahead in almost anything you do.

Aside from jobs that require precise scientific or technical training, I'll take the person with the best language / critical reasoning skills and teach them the rest on the fly.
